I have now been implanted.

Not an alien baby or anything dramatic, a dental implant. It is not too bad but a bit ouchie.

Things I dream about:

Women

Friends

My sick telekenetic saw blade that I use to murder this massive skeleton zombie that knows martial arts

Cats

Guitars

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I dreamed about being outside too long and getting sunburned. Your sick telekenetic saw blade sounds much more interesting.

It's rare I promise you. Most of my dreams are somewhat lacklustre.

For example: I just dreamed that I lost my shoes on a bus and couldn't find them.

Riveting lol

One of my rental applications has been passed to the owner to look at, giving me a sudden case of FOMO. What if I accept a place and could have got something better?! I haven't even looked at the place yet and I'm already having second thoughts. Hopefully the other place I applied for will come through for me first, it looks about 9.5/10 on my wish list instead of 7-8 ish.

Eyyyyy. Looks like I get to vote on 3 May as well! But not in the Australian elections... in the Tropical Soup ones instead - which I'm not eligible to vote for from overseas. Instead, through sheer luck, I get to vote hours before I leave! What luck.

Not like it makes a difference in a place that is a de facto one party state but hey...

Up with a massive pain in my stomach. I woke my girlfriend up because this was almost Go To The Hospital level but it has dropped off again now

[–] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Fingers crossed it eases up mate.

still unpacking and putting things away, I'm up to repacking all of Miss Seagoon's things.

She kept a jumper I made for her quite a while back and she still wears it when she's here

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

That looks great. I'd be wearing it all the time too.

When i am godking those who choose to rev obscenely noisy engines in wee hours through residential areas will from that moment onwards shit themselves every time they place their keys in the ignition

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Husband has added caveat "unless they're into that"

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago (7 children)

If we're talking godking omnipotence here, just have them explode in their car, their car can explode too.

I got a Liberal party email in my inbox this morning. Clicked 'modify preferences' and noticed some of the things they're tracking:

[–] Pilk@aussie.zone 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

πŸ‘€

This is actually super interesting. Consider screenshotting it all and send a tip to the Guardian. I'm sure the Libs aren't the only ones using these predictive analytics stuff though.

This is why political patties want your email and phone number -- so they can add you to a database and enrich it with data scraped from profiling platforms, data brokers, ethnicity predictors and other commercial data sources.

It's spooky and feels wrong.

[–] DolphinLundgrin@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Yeah, that was first thought actually. Thought I'd consult the DT hivemind first though 😊

Another rental application in. Unfortunately the inspection is today & I can't go because of a dental appointment. But it looks perfect for me in the photos, hopefully I can be considered and get a different inspection time. The place does have too many yuccas. I'm not sure if the excessive green of the lawn is photoshop or if the previous owner did some serious watering before selling to make it look nice but I'll be surprised if it is not dead and yellow in real life. But the house layout is great, there is a sliding door I can put a dog door insert in and an area that looks like it would be perfect to put some vegies in without much effort. So fingers crossed again on tihs one.

The other one I put an application in looks like it might be ok, but there are a lot of maybes that you can't see in the (out of date) pictures that could make it unsuitable too, so I'm not bothering with the crossed fingers for that one.

Edit to add: this is what happens when you plant one little yucca

one little yucca, what could be the harm in that?

15 years later

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

15 years is about what I'm dealing with. Stick to potted ones.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago

Yeah, the trunks on those are massive and look like they are damaging the fence. Who knows what the roots are getting into. In another 10-15 years the small one that's been put in against the house will be causing some serious damage too.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 8 points 3 months ago

So a heads up to anyone who has a Harmony universal remote - they've decided that come may you can no longer update them. As in you can no longer program them at all. They're useless.

I'm pretty sure that's a violation of consumer law given they're deliberately crippling a hardware device that you own...

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 8 points 3 months ago

Woke up about an hour ago, I was surprised how late it was. I was wondering if I'd work from home today but I guess it's a day off at this point

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Ok, who broke the Bot? Fess up.

[–] bacon@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

We spotted him during our joint operation last night.

Dental bullshitI let the dental receptionist know due to a constantly recurring tooth infection I needed enough antibiotics to last until my appointment in just under a month.

Script gets sent directly to pharmacy without letting me speak to the dentist - go to pick it up and it’s only 5 days worth. I only realised on pickup so there wasn’t enough time to call them.

I’m going to be ringing them in the morning and then exploring my other options if need be but already know this is going to be a clusterfuck

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago (5 children)

You might have to keep going back to them, and it may not be their fault (although they should have told you when you made the request). When I had the finger infection the doctor said new govt. regulations mean they are not allowed to order a repeat on antibiotics, even if they know you are going to need more than one pack.

Got lunch out with a friend today, just getting breaks and a coffee right now.

We’re having Vietnamese for lunch today, I’m tempted to go for the beef pho, half thinking Bahn Mi but I’m not sure if it’s any good at that place.

Anyway looks like I lucked out and won’t be getting petrol at a lower price.

thinking about getting my master bedroom windows tinted. Its only a problem this time of year and despite blockout blinds you still get a tone of light. Cant stick the curtains down cause cats love hanging out on the window sills. Anyone done tinting or found a better solution?

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago (7 children)

We have external roller shutters. They let in 0 light when fully closed.

Yesterday's Scary Emails I Didn't Want To Look At And Felt Like Shutting Off The World Over were looked at this am (frog, swallow, etc). They were not as bad as expected. Just need to get one document signed by supervisor who I'm meeting on Thursday.

Work, otoh, has my crank level dialled right up today. Clashing with some poor assumptions and lack of communication (imo) around the scope of this job. I'm used to writing my own quotes for these kinds of things and having full control over managing client expectations including reinterpreting their own terribly written scope. Now I'm spending much much more time than I expected on this... well, it's not my fault or problem at this point, it'll take what it does to meet the scope as directed, and if the company bears a loss on it that's up to them to be tighter about quoting πŸ˜‡

I can't wait to get back to my usual role because I still resent this side of the job... Luckily this is maybe the second time I've had to do it in nearly a year.

[–] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

It's fun being able to hyperfocus on stuff but not being able to choose what that thing is. I'm starting to get calluses on my fingers from just picking up the guitar, to the detriment of my piano practice and assignments.

Time to drink some water and get a move on.
