Big brain tech dude got yet another clueless take over at HackerNews etc? Here's the place to vent. Orange site, VC foolishness, all welcome.

Update from my wife: Oh my God I can't believe that none of Elon's kids like him. Not even the manufactured AI ones. Truly reaching new levels of divorced never believed possible.

someone said it was Kendrick and Drake, i thought it was two Drakes pointing at each other

[–] BlueMonday1984@awful.systems 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

An actual Kendrick in this case would be Ed Zitron - pointing to just one example, Ed brutally torched Prabhakar Raghavan for ruining Google Search, then danced on his grave after he stepped down to a ceremonial role.

Holy crap I had missed the actual fallout on that front. Tech execs really are not like us, I guess.

Musk says: “At times, I think Grok-3 is kind of scary smart.” Grok is just remixing its training data — but a stochastic parrot is still more reality-based than Elon Musk. [Bloomberg, archive]

If someone roasted me such such surgical precision like that, I'd delete my entire Internet presence out of shame. God damn.

This is especially ironic with all of Elon's claims about making Grok truth seeking. Well, "truth seeking" was probably always code for making an LLM that would parrot Elon's views.

Elon may have failed at making Grok peddle racist conspiracy theories like he wanted, but this shouldn't be taken as proof that LLMs can't be manipulated that way. He probably went with the laziest option possible of directly prompting it as opposed to fine tuning it on racist content or anything more advanced.

Yeah, I reckon he could pay a bunch of dweebs to do racist reinforcement learning, but then the secret circle becomes so big that it's only a matter of time until there's a leak to the press. Plus, he really hates paying people.

He also wants instant gratification, so taking months to have a team put together a racist data set is a lot of effort for him.

Maybe the robot can finally explain to me how Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack" is actually music and not just somewhat organized noise?

[–] Amoeba_Girl@awful.systems 5 points 2 days ago

b-b-but all music is by definition organised noise . . . !

[–] dgerard@awful.systems 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm filing suit for copyright infringement AND breach of privacy, clearly they've been training on my personal webcam recordings.
