ngl, of all the games out there that should be remade, Quake 2 probably isn't one of them.
Especially as a single player game, it's kinda like sugar reduced vanilla ice cream. Just a bit bland...

How was quake 2 bland? It was grim, fast paced. Had hours of gameplay and some large maps. The multiplayer was pretty good too.
It was my first multiplayer game though, so i'm definately biased, but it did so much more with basic hardware back in the day. And the custom map auto downloading and servers were great.
A much better introduction to multiplayer gaming then some of the stuff today.
It was a technical marvel, but the gameplay definitely wasn't the best of its time and the art direction was sort of bland too. With other options, it just didn't really click.
I didn't play that one much multiplayer though. I will say that action quake 2 was awesome.
In my household playing multiplayer, we enjoyed Doom, the original quake (especially with mods like drastic reaper) and duke 3d, then the next really big multiplayer experience was unreal tournament which was and still is amazing.
My brother and I used to play Quake a lot online. In 1998 we faced the choice of both buying Half-Life or Quake II. I am happy that we chose Half-Life, and once we got Quake II it was apparent that we made a very good choice.
SO many hundreds of hours spent playing the Q2 mod Action Quake. I heard they remade it and called it, uh, something like "Counter Strike"? Never got into that one, funnily enough.
Remaster? Quake 2 as it was is a game of its time. A remake might be worth doing, but even then, probably not a lot of meat on them bones.
This is from someone who ran college level e-sports team before it was considered mainstream, as far as that goes.
I'm up for this. I have a bunch of nostalgia I am happy to see updated for the modern era, or completely ruined. It could go either way.
Was it a particularly iconic game in terms of storyline or gameplay? Nah. But the soundtrack is still gold and it captured my imagination growing up.
I personally wouldn't mind graphical remakes for these much older games, not so much Resident Evil style, but Shadow of the Colossus from Bluepoint.
A gaming community free from the hype and oversaturation of current releases, catering to gamers who wait at least 12 months after release to play a game. Whether it's price, waiting for bugs/issues to be patched, DLC to be released, don't meet the system requirements, or just haven't had the time to keep up with the latest releases.
