I try to purchase most of my music, host it myself, but I've found myself in a musical rut. Don't get me wrong, I love my music choices, but what do people recommend? I like a lot of different things, from pop to rock to edm

I like Ratboys - Indie rock with a twinge of country? Here's one of my favorite songs right now: https://ratboys.bandcamp.com/track/black-earth-wi-2

if you want a band recommendation: my favorite band right now is The Brave Little Abacus, an emo band from New Hampshire, really love their stuff. I would personally start with "Just Got Back From the Discomfort -- We're Alright." it's their most famous album, and very telling of their musical style.

Oh man this is right out of the 2010s and I love it! Really reminds me of a mix of Smashing Pumpkins and Simple Plan lol

alternatively, if you don't like emo, Goo by Sonic Youth is a good alt-rock album.

I've been making a habit of visiting smaller artists' Spotify profiles to find their own personal playlists. Greg from Cheekface has a few nice playlists that get updated time to time. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4a8I8hdJbw9BYf4ouaJFCs?si=cFhgUCN0RxO7FHJG3XpVpQ

Gets me outside of the Spotify echo chamber, without going too far for my tastes.

For fans of indie and alternative music.

For now there’s no real rules of Lemmy’s indieheads except these guidelines from the original subreddit:

We are purposely vague on a definition of “indie”. In general, music & news posts from these genres are not allowed:

Mainstream Rock/Metal Mainstream Pop Mainstream Hip Hop/R&B Mainstream Electronic & EDM

This is to encourage posts with music from more independent & underground artists. Experimental music & underground acts that exist within the banned genres will be allowed, at the discretion of the mods.

Feel free to discuss features you'd like to see on this community here. All ideas welcome!
