On Anime

While Anime is a beloved animation style with a rich history and extensive following, our focus here leans towards other forms of animation. This is due to the immense popularity of Anime in online spaces, which is amply covered by other dedicated communities.

This doesn't mean that Anime related conversation is not allowed here, only that it's not our focus. For a dedicated Anime instance, check out ani.social.

On Technical Discussion

While our primary goal is to discuss animated media, conversations about animation techniques and the process of creating animation are also welcome. Whether you're a budding animator seeking to understand more about the industry, or a seasoned professional sharing your experiences, you're welcome here.

I don't think there exists one on lemmy right now. I would recommend thinking about starting your own. You can have discussions about it here, but that's not really our focus and it would probably be better to create a dedicated community for it.

Edit: Having said that, there are a bunch of Blender communities. As well as a FreeCad community. Take a look at https://lemmyverse.net/ and see if you can find a community that fits what you need, perhaps one that you can help revive.

Would be clearer if you gave an example.

I'm guessing you mean VR painting. Or something similar like 3D sculpting (with some device setup that feels more immersive)?

There's also texture painting and vertex painting*, but those are only part of working on something 3D.

* and no I don't mean in the behind-the-scenes way it's often used for some technical feature, I mean vertex color that is used for the final (likely low-poly) result. Like

Spyro's skyboxes. The Lofty Castle skybox from the original Spyro. A beautiful sky, with the bottom half being dark-ish purple space with small triangular stars, the top-half with a visible planet and another smaller planet/moon in a blue sky, with the middle of the sky being separated by a line of clouds with an orange/pink glow on the upper half

I guess you could even mean mini/model painting (I say because you also posted this on the 3Dprinting community).

It could include all that you've mentioned. Basically l'm talking about 3D animation, and everything that you've mentioned goes into that.

I would just post that stuff into !blender@lemmy.world if it's made in blender Otherwise just make a new broad community.

Apparently I've been "Subscribe Pending" on that one since joining Lemmy...

Well, tell me if you find some better sculpting option than Blender. A lot of promising options (clay-like or SDF) are locked behind licenses etc. (and obviously I care more about low/medium-poly aesthetic)

Other stuff probably has its own limitations or is just more suited for environment (such as voxel terrain or CSG).

You mean software for sculpting ?
