Honestly just let people have their own opinion as long as they don't really fight. Remember that your opinions were suppressed in the past and that now you're basically becoming exactly what the governments were at the time.

On the matter of access to such medication for kids, hell no. Everyone knows kids aren't mature adults and they make stupid decisions. Some may try it because of curiosity, lack of knowledge or even as an act of rebellion against parents/guardians. And that will result at least in loss of fertility. Where did the "adults should protect children" go? Are we only protecting them from predators now? Then might as well let them drink alcohol and buy antipsychotics without prescription.

Btw a mandatory medical examination and a lecture from the doctor about the risks would be nice before making such a decision. Privacy concerns are there but physical safety first imo.

All of the above is obviously my personal opinions.

What a pos. nobody is "pushing" these medicines on kids. it's ultimately the kid's decision about whether they want these medications or not and I'm not aware of any cases to the contrary. also these medications have been used for literal decades so how can they be experimental? how do you expect people to trust you when you lie so blatantly? glad he got banned.

Happy Pride Month ❤️

Says can’t trust experts because they are clouded by ideology and bribed by industry quotes an judicial expert who’s entire job is to inject right wing ideology into the judicial branch while being motivated by bribes.

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 190 points 4 days ago (6 children)

Pretty sure he did that on purpose so he can tell the public how awful and disgusting he thinks Bluesky is in the future.

[–] forrgott 110 points 4 days ago

Oh absolutely. He's a slimy little fuckstain.

"a screenshot from clearsky showing jd vance's account as the most blocked in 24 hours on bluesky"

it's going well.

also lol'ing at the fact that he's jd-vance-1 because jd-vance was taken by a parody account which has a big banner reading "I did not fuck a couch".

Imagine thinking that one Clarence Thomas is less corrupt than thousands of doctors.

[–] evilcultist@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Coming from Vance, I like how the logic underlying the statements presumes a profit motive undermines the result.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago (4 children)

He’s not wrong about medical companies influencing patient care. He’s just wrong about who and why.

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (7 children)

"Anyway, want a 6 months supply of Vicodin?" -The doctors he should actually be worried about.

BIG PHARMA MAKIN THE KIDS CUT THEY DICKS OFF

god republicans are stupid. So fucking stupid.

[–] Kushan@lemmy.world 21 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Remember, the likes of Vance aren't stupid, they know the shit they say isn't real but it riles their base up and creates enough anger that their base will ignore all the shit the republicans get up to.

Do you think JD understands the irony that posting an exerpt from Justice Thomas that is against appealing to the authority of "experts", is, in itself, in fact appealing to the authority of an "expert", Justice Thomas, to support his stance? His stance of course being that medical treatment of minors with gender dysphoria in a way that does anything but reinforce the gender on their birth certificate is bad medicine/science. And both Vance and Justice Thomas also, being... I see here "not experts in anything remotely to do with medical science, gender dysphoria, adolescent development, or any field at all that would inform any semblance of a valid opinion on the matter of how to properly treat these kids medically" might, in fact, make their stance a little bit non-authoritative. Maybe both of them should stay in their lanes of bad faith partisan political theatre, bribery, and forcing the sprint we are all on towards fascism. That seems to be where their real skill sets are.

Stay classy, MAGA. You don't give two shits about your country, you actually did steal an election, and the backwash is coming.

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Did they steal an election ? Or did they still two elections ?

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 25 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Apparently, they reinstated it saying they just wanted to confirm it was really him before fully activating it.

Corpos will never let you down. Only throw you there.

The biggest delusion in modern society is thinking that a Twitter-like social media network is "the place to go for common sense political discussion and analysis".

I keep hearing the media repeat this bullshit. Twitter is not and never was the "public square". It's a place for morons to be morons and heart each other for being morons.

And this is the point where he playbooks "i was just asking questions i was just being reasonable why are you so mean unreasonable leftist echo chamber etcetc"

Which only works when people let it. A swift "you started ranting crazy bullshit" is what is needed here.

And I will use the name he hates against him in every thread I can.

This looks like some good sealioning. He probably didn’t write it himself. I think he was playing to his fans and trying to discredit Bluesky and its community guidelines. I wonder if Musk paid him, or if he did this on his own.

Is Justice Thomas a doctor or a scientist? No?

Then who gives a shit what his opinion is. He should be listening to the experts...not contradicting them. If his ruling is based solely on his personal feelings on this topic, then he needs to recuse himself from this case.

[–] KingGordon@lemmy.world 35 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The account is back. I reported it for misinformation and lying.

The thing with his argument is that I just struggle to imagine a scenario in which the experts and affected agree and we're better off listening to judges, lawyers, and politicians instead.

There's no reasonable argument from the avenues I'd listen to those groups (such as appeal to fundamental freedoms, rights of the individual, etc) where the position should be to bar these people from receiving treatment they want against expert recommendations.

In short, Mr Vance demonstrates the intellectual rigor I've come to associate with the denizens of Middletown Ohio, and the firm belief in one's own right to be the arbiter of everyone else's life I've come to associate with his ivy league education and tech background.

This is a man who argued with the pope about catholic doctrine a few years after converting and I honestly can't make up something more exaggerated than that

[–] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 days ago

I hope his dick rots off, just so he can get to experience gender-affirming care firsthand.
