Chinese EV brands, Xiaomi and Nio, offer regular tours for the general public this year, and three more automakers have announced plans to follow suit.

People who have visited the Xiaomi factory say they were struck by the amount of automation on display. The company says that the overall automation rate at the factory has reached 91 percent, with some production lines like casting fully automated.

These lights out factories still blow my mind! This will be completly game changer in the long term. Letting machines do all the work while humans consume.

I've seen a company in the Netherlands uses these boston dynamic dogs to walk around, follow a line and scan stuff to see if it still works. And it looks very futuristic and kinda off in a way, because i'm just not used to see something walk around like that. But the more i thought about it, the more it seems like a gimmick. There were no obstacles, so the thing could just have wheels. I've build lego roboters that could follow a line over 20 years ago. And them having to physically walk around to scan checkpoints, seems useless. But i also don't know anything.

Light out Factories are not future, they are already here

I remember touring one of the Mercedes factories in Germany many years ago and it was the coolest fucking thing watching an army of robot arms putting cars together. Of course they've since stopped giving tours (and I think closed the factory altogether?), probably because manufacturing in China is cheaper. >:(

There's still a lot of manufacturing going on in Stuttgart. Despite a lot of it being moved abroad.
