You know what always works out great for regimes?
Betraying their troops.
You know what always works out great for regimes?
Betraying their troops.
The vast majority of the troops are bigoted pieces of shit too, you think they care?
No? I think the trans troops that were betrayed will care, and I've seen reports that say this effects over 1000 troops.
At least a handful of troops (especially ones with more years of service) are probably now alarmed at how easily that retirement can now be taken away, and it will hopefully hit recruitment a bit.
that's less than 0.5% of the ~~war criminals~~ troops in the chair force
and they aren't much of a threat without planes or multi-million dollar attack drones
It's not like they're all just couch potatoes that know how to operate drones with PS2 controllers. They're still technically troops. They're all trained in how to operate firearms and communications equipment, follow chain of command, perform first aid, etc.
But you're right, not enough to be a threat.
But do you think trans troops will be the only troops that will be betrayed? The clock is ticking on all the immigrants that enlisted, they aren't going to be welcome in the empire's army for much longer. They'll inevitably go after other queer troops at some point as well to purge the military of "woke ideology" or whatever bullshit, and unofficially start drumming other minorities out too.
They'll need reeducation, of course, but they'll have every motive to unlearn their nationalism.
They don't have to care about the minority affected to be impacted; it affects readiness, which will affect them.
Laws which cause people to leave due to feeling unsafe will require others to be brought in to fill their roles, who are in-turn coming from somewhere else.
It's not a crippling issue (for a military) by any means, but laws that fuck with the readiness of a base piss a lot of people off.
Definitely not saying any military is a font of diversity and acceptance, but their most important asset is their logistics so fucking with that will not win you a ton of friends there.
I guess their word is as good as their policy positions.
