[Linux] B 1.7.3 Resolution: Cant make it take up the entire screen even when full screen (programming.dev)

Hello guys! Im using the official minecraft launcher, and decided to give Beta 1.7.3 a try for that nostalgic feeling of playing it for the first time on my grandmother's ancient PC. However, even when full screen I get what you can see in the image above, and I cant find any settings to change the resolution.

Keep in mind, Im on a weird setup. Im on Arch Linux with bspwm and 2 monitors.

If I press F11 while fullscreen it cycles through several modes and eventually gets to one where the game looks right as it should, but unfortunately that disables my second monitor and I need to restart bspwm to get everything as it should be (otherwise it just duplicates the first monitor to the second one).

I read in some forum threads that where might be some java launch arguments that can set the resolution, but Im not sure how to do any of that from the MC launcher.

Any help is appreciated!

I didn't see the former. I know the Arch/BSPWM combo, though.

I'd recommend using something outside the official launcher. For myself, I use Freesm Launcher (Prism fork without the Microsoft account requirement), and I tried b1.7.3 without any issues. Maybe take a look at that.

change the resolution of the screen to what the game expects. 1024x768 or whatever its using.

Im not sure if Im understanding correctly. The other commenter on this post at this time mentioned going into the settings for the launcher and setting resolution from there. If thats what you mean, I already tried 1920x1080. Ill try 1024x768 now and edit this comment with the result.

Edit: No change with 1024x768 either

Yeah I don't see the other commentator unfortunately. Federation can take some time. So yeah if reducing the resolution does not make the window bigger then its not going to work. Every reduciton should cause it to take up more screen with full screen only happening if the resolution of the screen is the same for the program in full screen. I don't have anything else as monitor resolution is the only time I have seen something like this.

From what I hear the official launcher's b1.7.3 has a number of issues (I've rarely used it though, and only for release versions). I've never heard about this issue specifically, but if all else fails you might as well try either prism launcher or the betacraft launcher just to see if they have it fixed. For what it's worth, it works for me with prism launcher on Arch with hyprland.

Have you tried setting it through the launcher? Open launcher, click java, then instalations, and then on the beta 1.7 instance, and it should pop up with some options including resolution

I tried 1920x1080 and there was no change.

I downloaded beta 1.7 just to try this, and im having an entire other set of issues with the resolution lol. Hitting f11 doesn't fullscreen the game at all, but using the keybind for fullscreen for my OS rather than the game one seems to fullscreen it fine (and funnily enough setting the resolution in the launcher does nothing)

Ill try with a slightly newer version to see if maybe it fixes, though I doubt it. Its highly likely its something to do with bspwm (my window manager) and my general configuration.

Edit: Tried both Beta 1.8 and beta 1.8.1 with no difference :/ I could always play on a server but I really just want the solo experience to take things at my own pace
