Hey geologists! I found this stone during a hike in the German Alps. Could you please help me identify what I am looking at? Could this be a fossil? I would say the dimensions were 30x30cm.

Likely some type of trace fossil, from things living in mud under the water https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trace_fossil

you could search 'fossils german alps', if these are common i presume theyre easy to find online

also taking photos of rocks, its good to include something for scale, a coin, a lense cap, whatever

getting to see this kind of stuff out in the world is always really exciting, enjoy!

Yeah, I was thinking about that only after the fact unfortunately. Was hoping the dimensions might suffice.
