Some good background info on why. TLDR: Larry Ellison’s son already pissing off the talent.

Larry Ellison’s son already pissing off the talent.

Ahh, but when the "talent" is Taylor Sheridan and his one-man show of Grok scripts and real estate kickbacks, it's more interesting than sad. The only thing I'm mildly concerned about is Star Trek.

Sheridan is Paramount’s biggest money maker. Probably not a good idea to send him running to another network.

If they wanted to replace the current Star Trek showrunner, I honestly wouldn’t mind. It needs new leadership at this point.

For Sheridan, yeah, it’s compelling industry news, but it’s only indirectly relevant to any show I might conceivably want to watch.

And for Star Trek, I tend to agree, but the question is, what does Baby Ellison think Star Trek should be and who does he find to make that for him? I’m not at all confident it would be an improvement, though he’s more about being patted on the head for spending Larry’s money well than any coherent ideology, so he might fall backwards into a decent pick.

Think of Sheridan’s soap operas as subsidizing the programming you actually want to watch. Star Trek isn’t enough to keep Paramount afloat in its current incarnation. Of course Paramount could always sell Star Trek rights to someone else.

Does this happen much? My experience is these huge conglomerates tend to hoard IP and just sit on it if they aren’t using it.

Writer for the Sicario movies, Wind River, and showrunner for Yellowstone are the ones I know of.

Didn't know he's also behind Lioness, but also haven't watched it. Which the article mentions is a trouble spot that is among the list of grievances contributing to his departure.

Oh, redneck soap operas, really not my bag.

Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King...

Currently the most lucrative creator in the industry. Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness, Landman. Paramount’s strategy has been to follow Sheridan to the flyover states. He’ll leave a massive hole.
