I just bought a 4k tv for the first time, and I want to use my old Inspiron 5577 with a GTX 1050 as a media PC for it.

But, the laptop defaults to the igpu, which only gives me a max of 24 (laggy) fps at 4k, and I can't figure out any way to make the laptop use the dgpu instead. I can run individual programs with the dgpu, but not the screen itself.

I've tried the Nvidia settings, and I've also tried "sudo prime-select nvidia", which completes and then doesn't do anything when I reboot.

I've checked, and my bios doesn't have an option to run the dgpu only.

I've also tried KDE Neon to see if it was just Cinnamon, but I got the same issue on KDE.

Am I just SOL? I really don't want to have to buy a new media PC when I literally have a graphics card in my laptop that can do exactly what I want already.

Edit: Yup, looks like I'm fucked, lol. Seems like the igpu is directly wired to the hdmi port with no dpgu passthrough. Maybe I can snag a Windows 10 PC for cheap.
