It's scarcity through unpredicted demand and lack of rapid scalability in the face of a popping AI bubble. Nothing greedy about having extra customers.

This is a usual behavior for cheap products that one must buy to get something to run at all.

It wasn’t 10 years ago we had so much surplus ram it was practically free. Dafuq, AI slop generators ruining the planet.

yeah i did upgrade this year, when i first read about rising RAM prices, i instantly bought a 64GB kit (DDR4 tho) - i paid a bit above 50€, the same kit now goes for 180€.
