Really, going in with AI? But, what kind of AI? We really live in the dumbest timeline.

Got to disagree with you on this one.

Depending on the implementation, this might be an efficient approach.

If anything they are likely overplaying the AI angle for PR reasons.

I know. Detecting enemy vessels is fundamentally a Digital Signal Processing problem and yes, some form of ML might be beneficial for it. But, none of that is mentioned in the article. I hate this catch-all term "AI". It is starting to not mean much because everything is being called AI now.
