I am a little bit distressed by the use of lethal weapons by our police forces. I think their minds are unduly influenced by what's going on in the US. In this situation there was no need to deploy a gun. He's in the basement. Talk him down. Wait it out. Their lack of patience has resulted in a death.

Things are likely to change for the worse as a result of this change two years ago:

The Ontario government said Tuesday it is introducing a number of new measures to boost lagging police recruitment numbers, including eliminating a post-secondary education requirement to be hired as an officer and covering the costs of mandatory training.
