Dickinson, however, said internal studies showed some 88% of his civilian workforce would not leave Colorado Springs for Alabama.

💀

No shit. The amount of great housing in the Springs with relatively easy access to Peterson AFB is incredible. Plus, the milder climate and insulated economy make it a place people want to stay. Winters aren’t nearly as bad as people imagine since it’s on the plains side of the Rockies.

"Military leaders decide having Space Command in a nuclear proof mountain is better than, like, literally anywhere else."

Space Command largely isn’t located in NORAD.

[-] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

Shouldn't it be in space anyway?

[-] 5BC2E7@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Technically it’s in space and so is the earth

[-] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I'll allow it.

Can we change the name to Starfleet, though??

[-] RojoSanIchiban@lemmy.world 26 points 10 months ago

Not yet, because it would imply we already have a fleet of spacecraft (which are top secret), so it'd let Spot out of the bag.

[-] Zron@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

That, and the military is already having recruitment issues.

They can’t afford to lose all of those redshirts to exploding consoles and transporter accidents.

[-] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Man, what did Spot do to deserve that kind of treatment?

[-] Wahots@pawb.social 14 points 10 months ago

Or United Navy Space Command (UNSC) which sounds way more professional than Space Force.

[-] grinde@programming.dev 9 points 10 months ago

No, this is clearly Stargate Command. It's even in the same place!

[-] LeafOnTheWind@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

That will come after WW3...

Still can't get over how when they announced the uniforms for Space Force they used desert camo.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

I mean, I guess there's some precedent:

[-] jscummy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 10 months ago

Most rocky planets are pretty desert like, they were just planning ahead. I guess that raises the question of if Space Force, or the Army, or Marines (dare I say Space Marines?) would handle land warfare on other planets

Does Tatooine have oil?

[-] SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Like when the official Navy Working Unuform was blue camo. And now it has been replaced with... green camo. For all those times you need to evade visual detection by Chiefs making sure you're actually participating in field day.
