What's that weird beige rectangle where all the junk is supposed to be?

Man a drill press is so freaking useful.
Oh yeah! Of my “expensive” tools, my power miter saw makes a lot of jobs easier, but the drill press lets me do things I couldn’t do without it.
Quite the nice shop you have there. What do you build?
This and that. This is a new shop in my new house, which is a 120 year old Queen Anne. So I’m mostly going to be using it for home repairs and small construction. Previously I’ve done a lot of armor building and repair for SCA armored combat, medieval camping gear, gardening projects, general home maintenance and small appliance repair.
My current project list is:
- Floor to ceiling wall to wall bookcase, with ladder
- Windows seat/bookshelf for younger daughters room
- Moulding to hide some cables downstairs
- Better bike storage
- Repair back deck
- Goth armoires for older daughter
- Trim out newly installed closets
- Better under stairs storage x2
- Cabinet lighting in kitchen
Oh wow, you'll be busy for a while, that's great!
This isn't shop porn, this is a shop dick pic.
Get started on that table! And then send us pics.
We like to watch.
I’m picking up the lumber tomorrow! And if the kids aren’t too crazy I’m going to start cutting it as well.
How is that top shelf secured? Do you have it screwed into the bench or to the wall or both?
Both! The back leg of the top shelf is also the back leg of the bench. The middle one is screwed into the frame for both the bench top and the lower shelf. The entire frame is both screwed and glued, with the tops just screwed in so they’re replaceable. Finally, I have a big L bracket at the top screwed into the wall to prevent tip over.
I’m planning on putting a small lip on the top shelf to prevent the bins from falling down during small earthquakes.
Ooof, feel ya on the small space. I got 2mx6m, which i share with bikes and gardening tools.
Put everything on wheels and abuse the driveway
