He has done a lot of shit that I would expect riots over and yet here we are. Probably find some obscure technically and most will just roll with it saying there is nothing that can be done.

Trump and his advisors know he can't do that. Almost every dictator has fake elections to placate the people and identify the opposition. This is a distraction and he's going to "allow" elections (promise he says it like that implying he has the power to disallow them) but he will fuck with the integrity of the vote through intimidation, fraud, and legal challenge.
