That expression means that the pause was full of something or was otherwise meaningful.

It's not an expression I'd recommend using because it isn't easily understood.

A pause in conversation that is full of tension and expectation.
What comes after has the potential to change everything.

Indeed, a good example would be the pause after a woman tells her partner "I'm pregnant" and waits for his reaction.
