Content creators and influencers in the US are now increasingly dominating requests for O-1 work visas. Astoundingly, the number of O-1 visas granted each year increased by 50% between 2014 and 2024, as noted by recent reporting in the Financial Times.

These visas allow non-immigrants to work temporarily in the US. The O-1 category includes the O-1A, which is designated for individuals with extraordinary ability in the sciences, education, business or athletics and the O-1B, reserved for those with “extraordinary ability or achievement”.

The Guardian spoke with some influencers who have had success in obtaining or are still trying to obtain the coveted O-1 visa and talked about what was involved in their process.

So influencers and only fans girls are taking visas that are supposed to go to scientists…

Isnt it a differnt Visa, like the one thay applies to movie and TV stars, musicians etc ? Not the one that applies to scientists etc

Nope, but the title really wants you to believe that.

Even if that was the case, I fail to see how this is any worse. A large portion of those scientists are the tech people that helped villains like Zuckerberg take over large parts of people's lives. Many others work in the arms industry. I think the evidence for the "scientists" being better for the US than the OF models is lacking. At least the OF models aren't enabling the worst people in the world to take over public life completely.

No, just pubic life.

(never thought that error could be turned into a joke)

Look, I know it's off-topic, but Rust's biggest benefit is that you only need to type "pub". Far too many times has my finger slipped when typing it out in C# and other languages.
