So I'm assuming most people in the affected areas have free time now due work getting shut down...

So, how's life?

But since the how is asked, why is life? what is life? when is life? who is life? ... okay enough existential crisis...

Really, how is life?

It's snowing. Not as cold as it was yesterday. The sidewalk and driveway will need to be snowblown, but I don't even know where I have a winter coat — my fifteen year old tends to borrow them and lose them in her room. It's warmer than it was yesterday which is good because we had some pipes freeze — nothing frozen today.

I don't work Sundays barring some kind of emergency, but I work from home so this won't change that picture at all unless we lose power or internet. Kids are in online school so this is just going to be normal life. But then also this is Michigan and five inches of snow isn't exactly unprecedented. We normally get this once or twice a year, although the last several years have been pretty mild.

I'm with you in missing the days when this was exciting. Snowmen and snowball fights and days off of school were kinda awesome.

No Snow Day? 😭

Did they ever even have a snow day?

I was in K-12 for 2010 to 2020and I feel like I experience a different era lol

I asked a coworker about this recently, but for a traditional school.

If the snow is reasonably predicted, the teachers will prepare a lesson plan to have classes online. If there is a sudden emergency, they will not have a lesson plan ready for online classes, and school will just be canceled (i.e. a snow day).

The Chesapeake Bay is freezing up. My wife and I did a bunch of shoveling. We will have a bunch more to do tomorrow.

It is all gorgeous.

Why on Earth are you shoveling the Chesapeake Bay!? 🤪🥶🤧

HAHA!! And in the spring floods I am pumping!!!

I love living beside the bay. 362 days a year it is heaven, 3 days a year it is hell.

Wow, that sounds...

... gorgeous. 😮

Snow and ice on the things.

Power down in at least this county.

Chillin' weblike on battery.

Fire in the wood stove.

Won't be able to escape my place until ice thaws.

Will have to go out and de-ice solar panels, but small price to pay.

Gaming w/partner later.

Cozy, but hoping other people are ok.

For me: I'm still living with my family of origin...

It's so weird...

I remember... okay I might have said this a bunch of times throught various comments but:

I remember in 2010...

When I first arrived in the US at 8 years old

And it was like November or December

And I was in Brooklyn, NY

And there was this huge snowstorm

the entire street where I lived in was covered in snow

My first snowstorm ever

That is a memory that is forever carved into my hippocampus

The snowstorm nowadays just make me wanna be a kid again

Its so sad that the passage of time destroys everything

I never really appreciate childhood when I was in the moment, until it the moment has already gone

I never thought of taking pictures to preserve the moment

I never did journaling

I never thought of future-me... aka present-me

I was just there...

And now I'm here...

okay I sound like I'm rambling lol

Like every time there's a flashback scene in movies/tv especially depicting childhood, I just get this weird nostalgia thing where my brain triggers its own "flashback scene"

so weird

I want a fucking time machine

I want to do the time-travel consciousness transfer thing like in Travelers (the tv show)

I wanna relive that moment

Forever

Forever

Actually idk

I had no freedom in that moment

Not like I really have much freedoms now either

But I have the internet now

I didn't yet have internet access during the first few months in the US

But idk why that snowstorm is like the most memorable "first impressions" of America

Anyways, back to the present

I'm living with family

But now its so... awkward

I sort of feel that nostalgia

But still... I've been through so much emotional trauma

Now we feel like strangers

Even though we've known each other for two decades

We've been together for two decades

I remember... vaguely remember... sometimes there's like a snow storm

And this was when I was in Philly and I had my own laptop

So I'd wake up at like 5AM and check the school district website to see if there's a snow day

And the I see the text in red banner.

The text that says school is cancelled

Like...

The

JOY

So then I told my mom that and then I just chilled on the internet for the rest of the day...

So AWESOME!

but yea...

oops I rambled for too long, I doubt anyone is gonna read this... xD

Life is what you make of it. e.g., enjoy school, because if you have to go anyway then why not? Make it a good one! It's the only one you have...
