Lol, looks like Xi's entered his paranoia phase just like Stalin did. Good stuff.

This wave is likely not as paranoud as you may think. I've seen a number of utube commentators talking about a large power struggle in the CCP over the last six months.

I struggle to see it. It's the same group of people that allowed Xi Jinping to become president for life in the first place. They've all been reaping the rewards of recent conquests, and even though they've continued the trend of cruelty this time they haven't lost any global market shares.

The only thing that could convince me that his rule is actually at risk is a boatload of evidence that somebody in the party had adequate ability and desire to completely replace him OR internal documents showing that officials were afraid of the administration heavily pushing toward WWIII with their support of Russia and Iran as well as their psyops throughout the west, namely TikTok.

"Strongmen" always do. Maga is largely in it as well currently.

I disagree on the MAGA part. MAGA is currently preparing for a coup, so they need ideologically compliant sycophants at the top levels of power. That's not paranoia; it's a pragmatic and effective strategy.

Disagree all you want. They fired plenty of military staff and even been polygraphing non-military staff trying to root out the constant leaks from their ranks. The coup is largely over already.

For what it is worth USA did require a purge before entering the bold civil oppression phase.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

If Maga were either pragmatic or effective they would not need to constantly purge.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 1 points 2 hours ago

My impression is that they've been purging people from past administrations, not their own appointees. If that's off the mark I'll have to rethink my position, but so far the purges can be explained by how they likely want high-ranking bureaucrats and military officers to be solidly in their camp.

So this new general is joining a long line of no-longer-useful 2nd in commands just like Trotsky, Ernst Röhm, and Prigozhin.
