Unfortunately couldnt make Hi P2P Client working, but at least the laptop is usable now: it took several seconds switching between tabs or copying text under mouse when it was running on windoze. Laptop is very low end specs (4Gb ram and some i3 cpu)

That's great news! For all of us who do work for our family's computers, Linux is an amazing choice. I've now switched four family members over and I've never heard any complaints from any of them. Linux simply works, they mostly just use browsers, they want no fuss, no mess.

Ironically how things have shifted, Linux is now the easier system for our parents to learn than Windows is

Done for my grandmother and at least three customers for my small (small) business. No one has had any complaints or questions. Just make the on screen text and icons kinda big, get them a Firefox icon on the desktop, make sure they can print and call it a day.

It won't. Too much money in it to let it fail.

I have a laptop from 2013 running Linux mint. It is still a very usable computer and very silent compared to when windows was installed.

There are many other NVR options out there. Try Shinobi.

Also, check and see if that memory is upgradeable for cheap, and whether it has an HDD or SSD. May be worth switching that if cheap.
