In some interview, Linus Torvalds said that he's seeing various Linux kernel contributors hitting retirement age and not many new kids showing up, presumably because not many kids learn C to the level of confidence where they could contribute to the Linux kernel.

And then, yeah, his conclusion was that they have to get onto the Rust hype train. You can think of the merits of Rust whatever you want, but there might not be another low-level programming language with that size of following for another decade or two, which is plenty time for people to retire.
