Welcome to AltMedia House.

I founded this community to assist in the democratization of media by promoting voices that are suppressed in mainstream media publications, especially pro-Palestinian voices.

This community is 'AltMedia' in the Mearsheimer and Walt sense. Not the Richard Spencer sense.

This community likes John Mearsheimer, Stephen Walt, Alison Weir, Edward Said, Rashid Khalidi, Ilan Pape, Norm Finkelstein, Noam Chomsky, Grant Smith, Chris Hedges, Robert Scheer, Ray McGovern, Larry Johnson, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, Col. Douglas MacGregor, Max Blumenthal, Anya Parampil, Alastair Crooke, Chas Freeman, Prof. Jeffrey Sachs, Aaron Mate, Phil Giraldi, Matt Hoh, Karen Kwiatkowski, Kevork Almassian, Chief Dennis Fritz, Craig Murray, Scott Horton, Andrew Napolitano, Ali Abunimah, Nora Barrows-Friedman, Jon Elmer, Asa Winstanley, Daniel Davis, Nima Alkhorshid, Pascal Lottaz, Seymour Hersh, Glenn Greenwald, Krystal Ball, Saagar Enjeti, Jeremy Scahill, Ryan Grim, George Galloway, Tucker Carlson, Thomas Massie, John Kiriakou, and everyone proximal to this group.

News outlets we like: the Cradle, Grayzone, MondoWeiss, Antiwar.com, Mintpress, Jacobin, Middle East Monitor, Middle East Eye, Al Jazeera, Information Liberation, israelpalestinenews.org, Electronic Intifada, Drop Site News, Responsible Statecraft, Sonar21, Scheerpost, Breaking Points, Consortium News, 972 Magazine, CounterPunch, The Intercept, The Nation, Haaretz and others like them.

We also browse Israeli newspapers like The Times of Israel and the Jerusalem Post for the ridiculous things they say.

We are cross-platform:

Sounds plausible but if you search for

  1. dont - 12k results
  2. don t - 2k results
  3. don't - 70k results

But there's other very strange redactions as well, like "I" here

It's probably some shitty AI work

[–] AltMediaGuy@altmedia.house 34 points 3 days ago

I'd ONLY - I "DON" LY

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 22 points 3 days ago

These were probably redacted by a hundred people each doing their own dumb method.

[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Probably "I'd"

[–] Trilogy3452@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

So least amount of unredacted combination of the three is the closer one to what they said they're trying to redact. The automation could've been employed partially through too, meaning some were left out early/late

That tracks. WAY back in the day, you couldn’t say “wristwatch” or “pocketwatch”’ on the GameFAQs forum. Can you figure out why? It blocked both as one word or two.

It’s because both have “twat” in them. Any word that ended in T, followed by a word that begins with WAT, was automatically flagged for moderation.

Same situation. Kind of. Way different scale, sure. But similar logic by the computer.

And famously at one time the people of Scunthorpe in the UK couldn't post their town's name on many websites.

My favorite was a multitool forum that censored all swear words to "smurf." A common topic of discussion was the use of stainless steel Leatherman tools in and around the ocean, if they would corrode in that environment, and how to clean and care for them in and around salsmurfer.

salsmurfer

Salfucker? Salcunter? Salasser? Salbitcher? Salshiter? Salcraper? Salbutter? Salnutsacker? Saldicker? Salcocker? Saltwater oh okay there it is.

Knight being censored in FromSoft games situation

Nasser had his name auto changed to N***er, which made everything better.

It's always something wacky with the redactions, someone over there sucks ass at Regex

[–] WhoIsTheDrizzle@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

There's no reason for the sender to have been redacted as well, of course.

Is there an explanation for the use of the equal sign for the letter e on lots of his emails?

[–] alsimoneau@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I saw a post about this. Wrong decoding of email format.

[–] Thorry@feddit.org 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yes this is wrong decoding of Quoted-Printable encoding. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quoted-printable

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Probably bad ocr of scanned documents.

[–] petersr@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Then the real question is: why the hell has a digital medium been printed just to be scanned + OCR'ed? (and because clearly redactions are not done physically).

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

A lot of the degenerate pedophiles in question are grey haired boomers, a cohort that just...loves to print shit out on paper for some reason.

[–] petersr@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I hear you. But I am guessing that the agents, investigators and other case officials are not all boomers. There are probably hundreds of people on a case like this and their ages probably span all age groups.
