One of my students yesterday said, for him, that creativity is the freedom to generate different ideas.

For me, I have a more traditional definition I guess: the motivation to make art. What do y’all think?

I don't generally think of myself as particularly creative, and by your definition (motivation to make art), I'm definitely not very creative. By your student's definition (freedom to generate different ideas), I feel a little more creative.

I have to think about this for a bit, but based on previous discussions, I think I actually am reasonably creative, just not necessarily very artistic. My creativity tends to lean more... practical? I'm not sure.

Aha! Right, creative is not necessarily artistic. Practical creativity isn’t something I’ve heard much about, but it sounds neat!

I tend to lean towards solving (2) problems with (1) well thought out solution. If you do this enough, you can rapidly make progress on the cheap. As a designer, that's my motivation.
