Hi! From lemmy.ca I subscribed and posted on a lemmy.world hosted community (I subscribed a couple of days ago), after posting I went to lemmy.world and I cannot see my post.

Is there a delay in sharing information between servers? Or is this expected behaviour?

I also noticed that the community related information has different values, specifically the number of subscribes, on lemmy.world it says the community has 5k but on lemmy.ca it says 109. Is 109 the number of lemmy.ca subscribers to the community?

Cheers!

Lemmy.world is having a lot of issues with federation (transfer of posts/comments/votes etc.) between instances. They are working on it but it's not something we can do as it's their servers struggling.

There is a delay between when Lemmyworld syncs the post and you posting it. Normally it is short and thus would appear almost immediately, but considering the sudden increase in users by more than 40%, their server is having a very rough time right now. Expect this to continue until their servers get upgrade or traffic slows a bit.

Your third paragraph is correct. 109 is the number of lemmy.ca subscriber count to that community.

Thanks both for the explanation.

It would be nice to have a page that shows the connection status between servers; I'll have to look for where to suggest new features, that way people can go to that page to see if something is going on instead of asking like I did.

Growing pains I guess.... after a while we'll be used to this. :)

Something like a federation status and message backlog page would be great for sure! In the meantime, I saw somebody's put up a status page for lemmy.world, which at least lets you see if performance is degraded there (I'm assuming other instances will eventually follow suit).
