Hi Everyone!

We've setup a shared account to simplify the process of contacting an admin.

Rather than messaging several of us, you can now contact @admin@lemmy.ca and we'll all be notified.

A link to this user is also available in our main sidebar on the home page.

Decided to check out the site above and I'm not sure if I'm reading things correctly, but it looks like we're running behind Lemmy.World by a significant amount compared to the other major instances. I'm also noticing the scores of my posts in a Lemmy.World community is not updating despite receiving upvotes.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues or any odd issues in general?

Is there an option to pin a community in my home page so I can just click on it instead of searching for it?

I can't see any content from https://lemmy.ca/c/progressivepolitics@lemmy.world even though the community is right there https://lemmy.world/c/progressivepolitics

Instead I see a "Error! There was an error on the server" message.

As far as I can tell from my modlog and the modlog of the community I haven't been banned.

I can see other lemmy.world communities, like for example https://lemmy.ca/c/world@lemmy.world so I don't think some kind of block at the instance level has happened.

What is going on?

Hi, I know the past few weeks have been somewhat challenging for mods given the rhetoric around certain events.

I can say some rather inflammatory things.

I noticed that there is a gap in my history, I know I posted certain things, some not so nice, and I would understand their removal.

However, there's nearly a month gap and absolutely no mod log regarding any comments I've left.

Did I get Pam Bondi'd? Or something.

Using Voyager for android

The last modlog entry I see is from 2 months ago.

@lemmy_ca_support hi... is one of you the owner of @MVOverpassDWI ? I just realized it hasn't posted in months and wondered if it was abandoned or just needed resetting. Thanks and sorry if I got the wrong people

Just happened to https://lemmy.ca/post/50881857.

Logged out and back in and still seeing the problem.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

A few days ago my main account ( @irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) and a few of my alts were banned for vote manipulation. (https://lemmy.ca/modlog?page=1&actionType=All&userId=20988171)

While i did upvote 2 posts with the alts, they were both by a friend, and I knew the posts were going to get downvoted anyway. I have since removed the votes (that i know of).

There could be a few posts I upvoted by mistake on an alt without realising I already voted on it.

How I am supposed to re-toot (boost) previous post from another instance of fediverse, when my home instance of fediverse not showing those posts ?

One feature I miss from reddit is preventing my inbox from being cluttered by responses to comments that I don't care to read.

Seems to me that any comment that goes about +50 inevitably attracts commentors that are better off ignored. The inability to turn off inbox replies for a controversial but upvoted comment results in spam that reduces incentive to participate in the community.

Me personally, I find negative comments easier to respond correctly to when they're presented in the context of the other comments as opposed to isolated in my inbox.

As such I believe this feature contributes to higher quality participation overall.

RESOLVED: Seems language undeterimed was causing the issue. Hitting back in the browser (in old.lemmy on chrome) retains the post contents. All I had to do was select English and resubmit.

.....

Yea I just spent like an hour typing out a submission and when I hit submit it just dissapeared.

I honestly am so disappointed.

Can someone help me figure out what happened? Was it because I didn't select a language??

Every time this comes up on my feed, generally from an ani.social account, my a/v says dangerous site and blocks the URL but that popup is getting annoying, how can I block this url from lemmy (default webpage/summit app). I have blocked the instance ani.social and 2 of their comms animemes@ani.social and ANI.SOCIAL META@ani.social. Now one of the 196 comms has the same url link from someone on ani.social. Can't turn off that notification as this is a work pc using shudder Nortons

I didn't want to make a sequel to a previous question which got discontinued for the very reason that one of the people in question began attacking the question itself in ways that are relevant here, but I've run into an issue and was wondering where the line is drawn. Because people know the person in charge of the fedilore community won't do anything about things when they occur (usually based on whether they are partial or not in a situation), some individuals have begun amassing as large a mob as they can to incite matters about me (of note, the majority of what they are saying is slander and/or taken out of context) even when absolutely irrelevant, with at least one of these individuals taking advantage of being invisible in certain instances. Where are the lines drawn, and may something be done?

Trying to connect to Lemmy.ca from Mexico, since about yesterday, I'm getting a connection refused. I have to VPN to Canada to use the site.

Is this normal behaviour?

Using Voyager, so maybe an issue with how it's communicating with the picture services?

This could be happening with other instances but I've only seen it with lw. Occasionally I'll make posts into lemmy.world communities that just don't federate. It's not delayed federation -- the post always exists in that community but only on the copy of it here and only Lemmy.ca users can see it and interact with it. It's kinda like a secret Canadian version of the community, I guess.

It's more of an inconvenience because it happens fairly infrequently but is this a known problem? Is it resolvable?

Edit: this just happened with the last story I posted to c/world. When it wasn't on the actual l.w page, I deleted it, reposted it, and it worked fine. In the past though, there have been stretches of up to a few hours where nothing makes it off the server.

In settings, I've checked 'open links in new tab', but it doesn't work. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

ETA Someone suggested I try a different interface, and turns out it works fine in alex.lemmy.ca, just not lemmy.ca. So problem is at least kind of solved! Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to help!

Link posts from thetyee.ca appear to be previewing the Cloudflare captcha challenge "Attention Required! | Cloudflare" prompt instead of actual content.

What it looks like (two examples - this seems to be a consistent problem for thetyee):

(from https://lemmy.ca/post/39053782)

(from https://lemmy.ca/post/39058782)

What it should look like (a different post):

My guess is that the rich link preview is generated in Lemmy's backend, and Cloudflare thinks that the IP address of lemmy.ca's host is full of bots.

No educated guess on the solution, though, but I'd guess that other Lemmy admins have seen sort of thing too.

All frontends other than the default at lemmy.ca seem to be down, giving a Cloudflare 520 error message.

Long story short, there are individuals everywhere on the web who disdain me for different reasons who like to express that by smearing me, and one of them showed up in !fediverselore@lemmy.ca to make statements which are a mix of slander and unconsented reveal of personal info.

This is further shown by the fact that, if you see their info, their current name is a day old and none of what was said under it (with a single exception) pertains to anything unrelated to me (and the individual even openly redirects to some of the other places where they have harassed me, and in the responses I do too).

In classic fashion, the people responding there seem to not want to acknowledge the possibility that it breaks the rules, or that anything it says I am guilty of that I was ever actually guilty of was dealt with long ago (as opposed to it mainly being things taken out of context), and just keep saying "look what you've done", because people like to circlejerk.

I ask the question I ask, however, because the community rule enforcer there originally removed the thread upon my first report but then unremoved it to lock it instead. Though I might not be focusing so much on the following aspect of this ordeal, this, one might say, demonstrates explicit intent in furthering what the poster is trying to do. I know that, in other instances, unconsented personal information is not allowed. Even the ML one removes anything that so much asks about your hometown often. There was a case where a Neo-Nazi had their personal info removed because "a line has to be drawn". But me? I'm left thinking "wow, these people think I'm worse than a murderer, and that was before I did anything of note". Which anyone would know is a sarcastic thought. What the post says doesn't even follow the community's rules, but in the name of populism, it's there.

Is this against the rules (and what can be done)?

Im very new to lemmy.ca and to the fediverse. Im trying to figure out how to best navigate between things like lemmy.ca and lemmy.world I was under the impression you only needed one acct to go between them, but when I try my credentials at lemmy.world it says they are invalid.

Can someone maybe break this down like im 5?

Thanks in advance!

I find the frontend very useful as it has the media bias check indicator on shared articles and allows you to see how many elements of each category exists in the Lemmy search UI. Not to mention the troll buster feature where egregious trolls can be banned from all the moderated communities of a user.

Time outs (lemmy.ca)
submitted 11 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) by GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca to c/lemmy_ca_support@lemmy.ca

Ever since things came back up after the Jan 5th outage, I've started to encounter regular timeouts. I will scroll past a couple dozen number posts and then it will stop as of there are no more. Within a few seconds, the application produces a time out error.

I use Boost for Lemmy as my client, but I'm not convinced that the issue is the app since switching my instance allows me to continue scrolling without a problem. And to be clear, prior to January 5th, I've never experienced a timeout in the app.

I'm curious if I'm the only one experiencing timeouts on Lemmy.ca. If so, then I'm curious if the admins are aware of any issue.

[10 Feb 2025 Update: After Lemmy.ca was updated to 0.19.9, cloudflare account changed, and their hardware infrastructure replaced... everything has started functioning normally again. I can't say what the cause was yet, but the WebUI and any connected app is scrolling through feeds without any timeouts now. 💯]
