3rd final

It's not the perfect result we expected for Can vs Uruguay. We had about 10 minutes leading but they caught up in the final minutes. Anyway, we should be cheering for this historical 4th place.

Old price, you need to spend 3000 annually to meet the break even of executive membership.

After increase, the break even is 3250. Considering the inflation, I think it still worth to keep the executive membership if you visit Costco regularly.

Not sure if Sams will follow this. Maybe Sams would take this chance to attract more members?

Cascade Platinum is my favourite dishwasher detergent. I've been using it for years (https://cascadeclean.com/en-us/products/cascade-platinum-actionpacs-dishwasher-detergent-fresh-scent/)

In the last week, my local costco warehouse and costco.ca stopped providing Cascade Platinum. Instead, they're still selling Cascade Power Clean in green box (https://www.costco.ca/cascade-power-clean-dishwasher-detergent-actionpacs%2c-115-count.product.100483144.html) and they added a new product to the shelf Cascade Platinum Plus (https://www.costco.ca/cascade-platinum-plus-actionpacs%2c-81-count.product.4000230558.html)

I've tried the power green one, and I'm not satisfy with its quality: the smell of the food may remain in my dishwasher. The Platinum Plus is much more expensive than Platinum.

Does Costco changed the product line at your warehouse?

This is annoying, while there are a few things we can do

  1. Report this issue at https://webcompat.com/
  2. Change UA to trick this website https://addons.mozilla.org/en-CA/firefox/addon/user-agent-string-switcher/
  3. Best choice, change another store :)

"just browse the internet" doesn't indicate that you don't need a powerful computer in 2023. Modern browsers are really heavy - and rendering websites are much more complex now.

Unless you're really frugal about your PC budget, I think it's definitely "to-go" for 32G

I had been using WSL2 for about one year. The experience was terrible compared to a Linux host. (Sadly I can't change the system on my work laptop). However, it was much better than Cygwin, msys2 and powershell - based on my experience.

If your host OS is windows and you're interested in Linux, I think WSL2 is a good way to have a try

  • Find an open-source software that you're interested in, but your main distro doesn't provide it in the official repo. Be a packager for this software.
  • Open your distro's wiki, rewrite (or contribute, if already good enough) a page or section.
  • Try the bleeding-edge version (or very-early testing) of your favourite distro, and submit some test results, regarding to your hardware.

IMHO these tasks are interesting, could learn a lot from these tasks, and other linux users could benefit from these work

While I’ve looked into Fedora Silverblue, that distro is limited to only install Flatpaks, which is fine for “apps”, but seems to be more of a problem with managing system- and CLI tools.

No. Your understanding to Fedora Silverblue is wrong. I can just run rpm-ostree install package.name in Silverblue, like other Fedora spins. The small disadvantage is that I need to reboot to apply this update. (re-construct)

but doesn’t that result in new A/B snapshots, or something like that?

Well, you can call it snapshots, but there is no need to think about it. In most cases, the system points to the newest snapshot (deployment 0). If a rollback is needed, I can pin to the older deployments. When a major change is to be applied (Like bump Fedora version), I'd manually mark the current deployment as dont-auto-delete.

Sure, but I’d like to have a more seamless experience, i.e. not having to open/start any “containers” or something like that.

I never used toolbox in my Fedora Silverblue system. I feel that I can't tell the difference between using Silverblue and the default Fedora spin

When posting in this community (costco at lemmy.world), if I post with Language=English, when I clicked “Reply”, the little circle on the button had been spinning and never finished.

If I left the Language unselected, or manually set to Undetermined, then my post could went through.

Is there any mod settings at this community?

I was trying to reply a post at Costco@lemmy.world : https://lemmy.ca/post/1127818 , origins from https://lemmy.world/post/1020538

When I clicked "Reply", the little circle on the button had been spinning and never finished.

I refreshed the page, and no surprise, my reply was not posted successfully.

Similar issues has been happening to me in the last few months, and now I finally wrote my issue report.

Is this issue due to our site or their site?

Valve has been using MoltenVK to run Dota2 on Mac1. I'm a bit worried that if Valve would cut the funding on MoltenVK2. Furthermore, CS:GO had been an example of a cross-platform example for multiple-player game. Valve's games may still support Linux/SteamOS, but what if other developers only release their games as win-only in future?

I think Fedora finds a good balance that

  1. All components are OSS by default
  2. It's super easy to install RPMFusion packages when needed

I don't think a municipal sales tax would help much. For shopping, people could visit adjacent cities with little effort, reducing the revenue for shopping malls inside Toronto. On-site business, like restaurants or cafes will take the burden.

I feel that our property tax rate is a bit low. For example, New York City has roundly 1% (https://smartasset.com/taxes/new-york-property-tax-calculator)

Hi,

I'm new to CFL, and I wonder if there is an option to watch CFL games online?

Any suggestions for subscription plan?

Thank you.

I think the biggest challenge is anti-cheat. I don't know if there is any solution instead of waiting for native release (like Dota2 and CSGO). Also, although I don't like Microsoft GamePass, lacking the support of it means we may need to pay extra to try various games.

I think Wine/Proton works really great nowadays (well I've repeated it at different places). As 2023-07-28, ProtonDB shows that in the top 1000 games, 75% are rated gold or better.

When it comes to distro, I think most popular ones are good enough if they meet to conditions (1) packages are not too out-dated (2) Not difficult to install some non-free dependencies (like rpmfusion)

Please feel free to share your thoughts here, like what you're planning to buy.

Hot video games may be sold out soon, so don't hesitate if you're interested

Diablo 4 is already sold out in the last bonus redemption: https://shop.shoppersdrugmart.ca/diablo-iv/p/BB_047875103979?variantCode=047875103979&source=nspt

A dumb question here: Due to job duty change, I need to be back to office a few months later. My office is not close to subway station, so I'm thinking of riding a bicycle. I have never done that before in Toronto, and I have several doubts

  1. Is riding the bicycle along Yonge St. (Davisville Ave to Dundas) safe? Is there a separated bike lane?
  2. Can I still ride in winter? How uncomfortable it would be for riding 5 km?
  3. Furthermore, in winter, will the bike lane be used for dumping snow? (it happens in some cities)
  4. Is there an online guide or book for newbies like me?

Thank you for your tolerance to my questions

I just found this interesting tool.

Search the product in https://shop.shoppersdrugmart.ca, and the variantCode is the UPC in https://stocktrack.ca/sdm/

It's okay to disable location sharing to this website. Just type your postal code.

I had played Diablo II when I was young. I'm not a big Diablo fan, but I'm attracted by this new release, and I'm interested to play with my friends.

I can't decide that I should buy a PS5 version or PC version. Here are some pros and cons I'm thinking about.

  • I don't have a powerful gaming PC yet. Before I made my decision of a new PC build, I may need to play with low quality graph (EDIT: I already have a PS5).
  • I could buy a pre-owned PS5 Disc, which is cheaper. If I don't like it, I could trade-in the disc.
  • I don't have a PS membership right now. I know I missed one promotion in early June. Is the membership necessary for playing Diablo IV?
  • If I need to organize my backpack, will keyboard&mouse be more convenient than controller?
  • I have a Steam Deck and I want to use it for some causal play. Proton or PS Remote Play, which works better?

Thank you for all your suggestions.

EDIT: Considering the suggestion by @LemmyAtem@beehaw.org, I've purchased the PS5 version so we could enjoy the game together in the living room. We also confirmed that, without PS+, it's okay to play solo.

I was very interested in the differences between Business Centre and Warehouses, and I had a chance to visit a nearby Business Centre a few weeks ago. I'd like to share some of my impressions about it.

  1. Bigger than warehouse, more SKUs. There is no Coca Cola Zero in all the Costco Warehouses I've visited, but I could find them in Business Centre. There are also more electronics to choose, like fan at various size.

  2. Choosing meat is so cool (literally) The meat is put on open shelves in a room with low temperature (like diary room). After making my selection, I had to rush out of it

  3. No gas station, No food court But their is still rotisserie chicken at 7.99! Sadly that my family doesn't like that.

  4. The location is okay for me. Luckily, this Business Centre is not that far away from my home. Depending on the traffic, it cost me about 40 minute for one-way driving.

TLDR There is not significant difference between Business Centre and Warehouse, as I had expected before
