I’m still waiting for my disability benefit appeal, the last I heard from them they said it was delayed due to a backlog. So I still really need help getting food as I have no income.
I tried everything before finding mutual aid - the food bank only lets you go three times every 6 months (and only give three days of food each time), so is no use for staying fed. The cancer charity macmillan no longer give grants and my local council offer no help in this situation. I've maxxed out my overdraft and in the end, after selling all my belongings, out of pure desperation I started shoplifting food from my local supermarket.
Mutual aid is the only way I have to stay fed. But the British government love to make disabled people’s lives a misery as much as possible, so they are also checking everyone’s bank accounts to make sure we don’t have unexplained sources of income. So I don’t feel safe accepting actual money.
