Verbrenner literally translates to "burner". It's the German word (or rather nickname) for an internal combustion engine powered car.
The guy behind Merz is Markus Söder, in case anyone is wondering. He's the minister president of Bavaria and one of the leading voices of regressive backwardness in Germany.

It's a short form of "Verbrennungsmotor", the German word for internal combustion machine, so I'd translate "Verbrenner" to "combustor" 😅
