So first of all. I do own the game since beta. But I have been increasingly interested in the cracked versions of Minecraft. The main reason is all the age verification BS that's going on right now. I know for Minecraft this is just for Xbox right now. But I do suspect it to spill over to the java edition.

As someone who owns and runs multiple modded Minecraft servers. I wonder what are the current best cracked launchers which also support modding. Which are are safe and would you guys recommend?

Fjord Launcher Unlocked is probably the best there is. Has authlib-injector support out of the box, retains FTB modpack support, and is patched to remove MSA checks.

Also for players on your server you should recommend people use No Chat Restrictions in case they still wish to use Microsoft accounts for whatever reason. I feel like maybe that mod should be installable on the server so you can require players to use it, but currently it doesn't do anything when installed on the server.

Thanks for this. Was going through alternatives some months ago and never found this one. All of us have accounts but we didn’t feel comfortable with Microsoft peeping.

It’s like, we bought the game almost two decades ago, I’m hosting the server on my hardware and on my network. Why the fuck does Microsoft need to peep in on that?

[–] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 week ago

Yeah it's weird that they feel entitled to do that. It's also a bit sad that a large portion of the community essentially accepts it. Well I mean that isn't exactly true. In other places alternate authlib services like BlessingSkin and LittleSkin are very popular (mainly just for getting skins, not as use for auth) but beyond that you don't see any real push to break away from Microsoft.

Does authlib-injector allow you to spoof a mojang account or does it just make alternative authentication easier?

[–] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It just allows logging in to alternate auth services like ely.by or littleskin.cn

Okay that’s what I was guessing but I wanted to double check. That’s cool though!

i was dealing with this on my server and everyone's clients until i converted the world to luanti. now everyone can play on any device for free, forever. no hoops to jump through anymore, no accounts, no bullsh.

Probably not the answer you are looking for, but if you really want to own your servers, have you considered replacing Minecraft with Luanti? Sure you'll be missing some features, but you can help to improve it.

[–] kylian0087@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

While I think luanti is really cool. It isn't a replacement. Also many mechanics of all the modpacks we like you dont have with Luanti.

I'm in agreement, Minetest is more of a curiosity than an actual replacement to Minecraft and it isn't good to suggest it as a replacement to Minecraft.

I use Freesm. Looks like ElyPL is geared for custom skins and externally hosted servers. Both is good I guess.

I own the game, I just don't like relying on server logins to fucking play single player/locally. Freesm lets you have the whole game without a M$ account. Combine that with a self-hosted server in offline mode and I can play multiplayer with an offline profile.

[–] gami@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

ElyPL's focus is Ely.by integration, alternative account service with its own skin system, but can similarly be used to play offline without an account.

In either case, any one of these Prism/Fjord forks are pretty good: https://fmhy.net/gaming-tools#launchers

You need to connect to Microsoft, but after that, you can make as many cracked instances as you want.

[–] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

There are also bypasses for that so you don't need to actually connect, and forks that remove the requirement. Though I would say that bare prism is not the best thing to use considering FjordLauncher has authlib-injector support which means being able to connect accounts other than Microsoft and offline accounts.

There is an easy by-pass, simply modify a config file. Guide here: https://rentry.co/Prism4Free

I hadn't opened the link. My bad.

Most launchers I’ve used allow you to launch unverified or “offline” instances which I believe should be the same as what the cracked instances would do as well. The main downside is that you can’t join any public servers that don’t have Mojang authentication on (just like the cracked versions).

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Can't you just turn off verify-names in your server settings?

[–] kylian0087@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Sure but if Microslop decides you need a age verified account to use Minecraft or even join public servers this wouldn't work.

[–] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Turn offline mode on and install a password plugin on your server. The worst Microsoft can do is revoke premium status on accounts, and offline mode skips all MSA account checks on servers.

[–] kylian0087@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I know how to run the server offline and use such plugins. Its just looking for a good client that's all.

[–] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

Well probably the best client is Fjord Launcher Unlocked (linked in my other comment) since it supports alternate Auth servers which effectively bypass the problem altogether. Ultimately though if Microsoft revokes premium status on accounts to get people to verify, using a different auth server or disabling it and going with offline mode will be the only real way forward.

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago

Just keep running old versions. Minecraft hasn't added anything worthwhile in an update for over a decade anyway.
