A very good friend of mine is going through a nightmare with her cats.
She has worked in cat rescue in various roles for her entire adult life. She's been a foster mom, shelter employee, nutritional consultant, and advocate. Her work has directly impacted the lives of cats in our community.
Her three year old sweetheart, Kyo, was recently rushed to UW Madison for a blood transfusion. He had been behaving oddly, and was taken to the his usual vet for evaluation. After many expensive tests, Kyo was diagnosed with FELV (feline leukemia), and was suffering from severe anemia. Thankfully he was able to come home yesterday after undergoing a blood transfusion, but his prognosis isn't great.
The cost of Kyo's testing and hospitalization is huge, but unfortunately there are other expenses his mom has to incur. Kyo has a number of brothers and sisters he lives with who must now also undergo blood work, as FELV is highly contagious. It's not only costly monetarily, but if other members of the household are infected, my friend could lose other prescious family members.
I appreciate you taking the time to read this. If you're able to help at all, please know it will make a huge difference for someone with a kind heart going through an awful time.
