My experience in the East Bay over the last year has been that mass transit is so slow and expensive that usually it makes more sense to pay for a car ride. One common trip for me is $22 and 20 minutes by Uber vs. $8.50 and 80 minutes (four times as long, counting the busses to and from the train stations) by mass transit. I wonder if ride-hailing apps rather than covid are primarily responsible for the decline of BART.
