My hypothesis is that a rug or carpet gives them the illusion of outside dirt where their vomit can be absorbed and dissappear as opposed to tiles which doesn't.

In my country, kitchen floors are usually a surface that spills can quickly be wiped up, and rugs are often the size of a whole room.
