dragon vs. fire (dragons are literally best known for producing fire) and dark vs. ghost (ghosts seem like creatures that have a lot to do with darkness) bothered me more tbh

This two only make sense in Japan I think.
Dragon with fire is more of a west thing. It's make sense for Dragon to resist lighting, fire and water since is what they are associate in Asia, Pokémon doesn't have a wind type, maybe they should resist flying? Dark is the evil type and ghost is not always evil.
They made it even worse by making ~~all~~ most of the rock types also ground types in the beginning.
There is so much I'd love to see changed about this series. I doubt anything will ever seriously change to my liking. I think the best thing is to play romhacks or other games that capture the spirit of pokemon.
Do you have any recs for romhacks?
I’m only just getting into it, but I’m playing Pokemon ultra violet.
Is a hack of fire red and it is pretty vanilla, but you can catch all the Pokemon and but have to trade for trade evolutions.
Also, you can choose a starter like normal or go to some kind of safari zone and get something else. I caught a ghastly as my starter.
Nice, I’ll have to look into that one.
A couple that I’ve been following are:
- Pokemon Lazarus, an emerald romhack in a new region based on Greece. Lots of custom pixel art for the trees/architecture/terrain and apparently has megas.
- Pokemon KEP, a red hack that adds some of the original beta Pokemon back in to the game along with regional variants of Kanto Pokemon, and adds a couple new locations/characters/music/features.
- Pokemon Extreme Yellow which adds in some of the Kanto megas as final evolutions. A bunch of other goodies too such as expanded maps, quality of life stuff, crazy hard puzzles. The creator is trying to implement a bunch of other crazy stuff for an unreleased update including diving mechanics.
Not true. The 1st gen fossil pokemon are rock/flying and rock/water.
~~Yes,~~ You are correct. My intent was to point out that ~~although~~ your average player would be exposed to the Geodude line, the Rhyhorn line, and Onix significantly more often than any of the fossil Pokemon.
Edited for politeness
