Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

6. Defend your opinion

This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

When I first looked up psyllium husk powder as a fiber supplement, people were complaining that it made the water thick and gross. That enticed me to buy it. And when the packaging said to drink immediately after mixing lest it thicken, I instead let it sit for a good 15 minutes until my glass of water had a smoothie-like consistency. Makes me love drinking water again and also sad that I can't have it with every glass of water or else I get stopped up.

You might like 'aloe water' too, altho for a different set of health benefits.

This is a thickening agent that hospitals and nursing homes use for patients with dysphagia. Dysphagia refers to difficulty swallowing, and it can present a life-threatening choking hazard for cognitively impaired or physically paralyzed patients.

I mean... ngl, you're weird for wanting thick water. My patients all hated it, but they put up with it because it was necessary. But if you just want thick water, here you go, I guess. I see no harm in it.

I get it. The texture is fantastic. Now, the flavor is another thing. This works best with orange metamucil.

You're supposed to drink it before it gels since the gelling action is what makes it work to bind everything together like glue so you take a normal shit when you don't have enough natural fiber... That's why it also says to drink it with a meal.

If you just want thick water, they do make that.

OK, so - gross, but I sorta feel this way about drinking water with ground flax seeds mixed in? I will drink a glass of water with 2 tablespoons (15 mL) of ground flax seeds, and it actually tastes good!

I don't have to let it sit or anything.

I found psyllium husks were a bit like eating sawdust, but I found the psyllium husk powder easier to choke down, but neither were anywhere as good or tasty as ground flax seeds.

I bet chia seeds would also work for letting soak and make a smoothie / gel / thick consistency - you might try that out too? (Chia seeds are also a great source of soluble fiber!)

Use room temp water with crushed ice and stir vigorously until the ice has melted. (this has traditionally worked for me but ymmv).
