A place for optimism, relentless positivity, anti-doomerism, and snuggle sessions.

We're all in this together, and a better world is possible!

This is now also a space for organizing tips for our collective survival as we confront climate change and everything else. Still no doom-posting. We're here to work together, support each other, and boldly face the future.

Rules:

  1. Familiarize yourself with the site-wide Code of Conduct

  2. No doom, no gloom, only bloom. There's plenty of room for doomerism elsewhere. This community is solely for having a positive outlook on the future and spreading good vibes.

  3. Be kind to your fellow users. This also means no arguing in the comm. Arguments and negativity are not conducive to blooming. Constructive discussion is good. No interest-policing. Support your comrades in their joy!

  4. Always share good news. We can't exactly enforce this one, but if you have good news, please share it with us! Keeping happiness and positivity to yourself is the twelfth type of liberalism.

Time for another bloomer thread in which we post about the good stuff. Be it something big, like a major breakthrough with your org, some good news you want to share, or even something small like "hey, look at this cute bug!". This is a thread where we take a short moment to spread some joy in some very dark times. So if you have something nice to share, share it!

Got a long event for one org that I'll be able to travel to, for a whole week.

If work allowed it, I'd go to 4 of these things every year.

  1. Nailed the interview on Thursday I could be moving to a more progressive part of the midwest and in the mean time starting a part-time job (its minimum wage so I don’t feel bad if it lasts like a month.)

  2. Said β€œfuck it” and took a day trip to Columbus, despite being in Oh*o, still had a great time and grass touching is fun

  3. Benching 200 lbs for reps again.

  4. Many of the pro-palestine marches have ignited a little bit of hopium. Maybe I’m being optimistic here but the pro-palestine, and anti-war movement and with trans rights and anti-mass surveillance? You got the ingredients for a 21st century counterculture.

America's power is collapsing, so that's nice.

Witch Hat Atelier is coming out April 6th. Great anime, please check it out.

I was able to resurrect my clothes washer about an hour ago, for about $.50. I knew I'd be able to fix it regardless but I figured I'd be modeling some plastic cogs and pawls for printing in CF nylon. I'm passable in tinkerCAD but these are some really funky parts so I figured it would be a day or two of printing, resizing, and reprinting to get exact, between work shifts.

Instead, two screws backed out of a plastic housing and all it took was a dab of loctite and retightening the screws. What I figured would be a multi hour process turned into a five minute permanent fix instead and now I can wash clothes while sitting on my ass at home instead of hauling a weeks worth of work clothes and my kids clothes to be washed at the laundromat half an hour away. It's almost like I got my whole evening back.

I'm very impressed! That's like a quantifiable QOL change 🀩

Edit: sorry for double reply, for whatever reason the thread started sorting by new so I thought my original comment was a top level comment not a reply ://////

I'm really glad I got it fixed cheap, I'm already like 35 bucks overdrawn and wasn't looking forward to plunging into the negative numbers quite so far. I get paid in two pays and I'm kinda hoping to coast by til then. This actually makes that a whole lot better, as now I'm not factoring in $30-40 in laundry plus the $35 overdraft fee. I'm also on "E" so it would also be whatever gas I need to get plus that overdraft fee. I drive a company truck for work and my kids ride a school bus to school so barring an emergency I don't need to drive until I get paid and there's food at home, so I might get lucky and stay in my banks $45 overdraft grace where they don't ding you for it. This really was fortuitous.

Don't worry about the mess up. I'm not worried. Thanks for the post!
