One can be charged with a crime. "Battery" is a crime: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battery_(crime)

Also, a battery is a device. One would usually think of it as being charged, not charging, but it could do the latter - think of a power bank, basically a big battery.

The comic sets your expectations to wordplay, then immediately defies those expectations with a more literal interpretation.

How can a robot be homocidal? He’s killing other robots? Why is he being tried by a human judge? I call a mistrial!!!
