A place to share alternatives to popular online services that can be self-hosted without giving up privacy or locking you into a service you don't control.

Rules:

  1. Be civil: we're here to support and learn from one another. Insults won't be tolerated. Flame wars are frowned upon.

  2. No spam posting.

  3. Posts have to be centered around self-hosting. There are other communities for discussing hardware or home computing. If it's not obvious why your post topic revolves around selfhosting, please include details to make it clear.

  4. Don't duplicate the full text of your blog or github here. Just post the link for folks to click.

  5. Submission headline should match the article title (don’t cherry-pick information from the title to fit your agenda).

  6. No trolling.

  7. No low-effort posts. This is subjective and will largely be determined by the community member reports.

Still in progress. Open to suggestions! Current idea is to offer a dark and light mode switch, plus get some fun icons. Want to introduce variations with visual glitches and such, for more of a cyberpunk aesthetic, that can be generated through a pipeline. This is an excuse to learn a lot of little, technical things.

If you do add visual glitches then remember to also honour prefers-reduced-motion or add a button to turn the wiggles off. For funsies, feel free to poke around this pre-alpha since there's subtle glitching background image, crt scan effect, glitchy text effect, etc.

Thanks for that link! Makes total sense to honour.

Have you thought about hosting a Gemini Capsule?

Your HTML layout feels very Gemini

Wasn't aware of this. I'll look it up, but I am trying for text in an .html file... Seems Gemini is an alternative to html that requires special software. https://www.thesionjones.com/how-to-create-your-own-gemini-capsule-a-step-by-step-guide/

Yep its a newer version of goofer but its a text focused delivery model.

It serves no purpose other than I liked the look...

Too much list indentation. Cool glow effect

What would you suggest instead of indentation? My mind is still thinking of this as markdown, as opposed to html.
