Hello fellow Far Side fans!
About this community and how I post the comic strip… Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips and one of those was The Far Side. These days of course you find just about anything online including www.thefarside.com where they post several comics a day and I repost them here. Just to note, the date you see in my posts is not the initial release date, but the date they were posted on the website.
The Far Side is a single-panel comic created by Gary Larson and syndicated by Chronicle Features and then Universal Press Syndicate, which ran from December 31, 1979, to January 1, 1995 (when Larson retired as a cartoonist). "people who aren't attractive by the average person's standards exist" is right up there with "I hate my spouse"
The joke is always on someone. A secret to comedy is that in order to get a laugh usually someone has to be butthurt.
That's not the joke, offended iPad-baby.
What's the joke, then?
They are calling something ugly while they are themselves ugly.
I think that's pretty close to the original comment that got downvoted. "Look at these ugly people..." is the common denominator, while they didn't call out the "...who are hypocrites" part.
Still feels like crude moral judgment on ugly people, which pops up in The Far Side too often. Another recent example, specifically how Larson draws the imbeciles' physical characteristics.
I agree, and don't think we should pile on ugly people. I don't want people to give me shit for my failings, and despite the fact that ugly people are the ones mostly talking shit about I, we should still not pick on the ugly.
We could do a survey and men would consistently rank ugly women as ugly, and women would consistently rank ugly men as ugly.
