This can't like just be a coincidence right? I feel like all of those symbols in the same tagline suggests something more than just coincidence.

which is also abs bullshit

this is the original title: "Slavic adventure π–₯ž κ₯Ÿ ϟϟ"

those "ϟ" runes are Greek Koppa runes:

which are an entirely different symbol to the Sowilo rune "α›‹":

so the whole "not displaying correctly" is completely fabricated (also you don't fucking need two of them side by side)

imo someone snuck in a neo-nazi symbol in an email and GOG were either okay with it (if their not sending the email in Germany thing is legit - tho people are saying they got it there as well) or they're just too up their own asses to admit someone did send out a nazi dogwhistle and instead of investigating who and why they double downed on gaslighting - not a good look either way

So they were aware of the nazi symbolism and still sent it out, just not in Germany where it's illegal?

I am German and I also received the email

They have since also posted an apology on Twitter:

What a pathetic excuse.

I mean the SS symbols on their own is bad enough but its not the only issue with this titel.

Am I the only one seeing the wheel as a possible approximation of the Black Sun and the middle an approximation of the Kolovrat. (Which is heavily used by Slavic Nazis.

Perhaps I'm pushing the association a bit far, but with the SS symbols it's not that far fetched... Right?

@nope @banazir there's a distinct impression that the collection of symbols was specifically chosen to provide plausible deniability (Β«it's not EXACTLY that thingΒ») while still being a clearly recognizable dogwhistle. And honestly this just makes it worse.

For anyone not wanting to visit the cesspit, this is what an official, verified GOG account replied:

I want to briefly address the discussion as a GOG representative. The Sowilo rune is part of my cultural and historical heritage. As a Pole, I am fully aware of both its history and the sensitivities surrounding it. Its use in this promotion was intended solely as a reference to the sun, which is central to the game being promoted.

What was displayed in several devices as doppelrune is out of our control. α›‹ was displayed as ϟ on several devices. We should pay more attention to checking it on a different systems and devices. I also recognize that placing two such runes next to each other could create an unfortunate association with symbols used by the Nazi regime. This was noticed before distribution, and out of respect for local sensitivities, the material was not sent to the German community.

At the same time, I do not believe that symbols with a history spanning more than a thousand years should be defined solely by their misuse in the modern history. Allowing that would mean accepting that those who corrupted these symbols now own their meaning.

As a Pole, I have every reason to treat this history with seriousness and respect. Precisely because of that, I reject any suggestion that this promotion carried an extremist message. It did not. It was a reference to the historical symbol of the sun, nothing more.

If all of those runes are important to the game, then there is definitely a problem with the game.

Let's unsubscribe from their newsletters and show GOG we can't tolerate it.

Wow, you really showed them!
