Played guitar and bass when I was a teenager, but got rid of my stuff in my 20s when money was tight and I wasn't playing much. Been feeling the need for a creative outlet recently so I went a few towns over to a used music shop and grabbed this beauty. I've always loved Ovation guitars, the round back profile feels more natural to play than a standard dreadnought style. Spent a bit more than I was hoping when I walked in but I'm very happy to have something to play again.

I do have a question for the community here; where do you buy strings and whatnots online, that's not amazon or guitarcenter? I live in rural BFE and there are no music stores within 50 miles of me or else I'd go to one of those.

Yeah, I found Stringjoy a while back and I'm loving their coated strings on my acoustic. I've also got a pair of 11s for my Jazzmaster, but I have yet to put them on. I definitely second Stringjoy.

Lots of options, thank you

Sweetwater will also slip in a lil bag of candy with the order 😋

Nice find! I love my Ovation Balladeer but I had to stop playing because I have severe trigger finger on my left middle finger so every time I play certain chords or runs it locks up painfully and I have to stop playing. I’m trying to sell it and related gear (Acoustic A40 amp, Axe I/O One) but no one is buying because no one has money these days.

Until the finger thing I had been playing off and on since the early 90s. You’ll love the Ovation it’s the best “inexpensive” acoustic on the market as far as I’m concerned. As for strings I tend to lean towards Ernie Ball, I don’t know if you can buy them direct but I’ve seen them at Walmart of all places, maybe yours has them.

That's hard to hear and I'm sorry for you

And honestly, I feel you very much
In my late youth I got a deep cut in my left little finger, which also cut a tendon
Can't move it that good anymore
Pretty much immediately, after letting it heal for 4-6 weeks, I tried playing
As I also have nerve damage, I don't really feel much in the finger as well
I could play some simpler chords, but after showing myself, that I still could, if I want, I pretty much stopped playing
Probably, because I don't want to see, that's it's just not working anymore, like it used to...

Still have a half-acoustic and an electrical one in my apartment, but neatly packed away and ready to pick up, if I ever get a real urge to try it again

Nice guitar, I'd like to try an ovation at some point haven't had the chance yet but they seem really unique and have some great looking designs too.

I do usually get strings when poking around local music shops but for awhile I was ordering direct from d'addario chasing those points, but I like trying out a variety so I'll pick up a couple at a time one I've used I know I'll get some time out of and whatever I haven't tried yet or catches my eye. If I didn't have the option of nearby shops I'd probably just stock up a couple times a year or try to order direct from manufacturer if they offer it.

Great idea going straight to the manufacturer, thanks.

My first acoustic guitar in the 90s was an Ovation. Enjoy! Sounds like there are a lot of good advice below. You got this.

That is a gorgeous guitar! Love it! I always either get mine from Sweetwater or Reverb if I buy online. Most of the time, though, I try to buy from the locally owned store

I'd prefer to buy from a local shop if I could, but I don't make it out of my town often since I primarily bike everywhere. Thanks for the reccomendations
