If Hell was smart it would be push/pull or at least solely push.

We live in a pushers universe

Your title "I miss things in writing" genuinely confused me because at first I thought you meant "remember when things were written down?", and it took me a while before I understood you means "if it's written down I might look over it"

Did he go to Midvale School for the Gifted by any chance?

My brain has been trained to filter out advertising. Big red letters that are eye catching. I have literally been conditioned to ignore them as they are 99% of the time just useless ads.

Unfortunately, the really obvious and important warning signs use this same "eye catching" method of telling me really important information. So, I find myself in OPs situation a lot. I should not be allowed anywhere near areas with dangerous radiation or gasses.

Same goes for ordering food on a menu. I usually realize I wanted to try that "limited time" item with big letters and a dedicated picture AFTER I already ordered.

In an attempt to filter out noise I sometimes filter out important information.

This is because some breed of people thing you should add pull handles to a door that needs pushing. (such a door needs a push plate, and not handle at all)

It's the door design, not the user in most cases

Agreed. It's a lot like road design. People driving too fast in traffic circles or city streets is almost entirely the fault of the design. Roads should limit the speed with traffic calming measures; not just a posted speed limit no one follows.

Also, I found out recently that there are push bar doors that have unprotected seems on the bar. Basically, if you wrap your finger slightly under or above it it will pinch the fuck out of your finger when you push. Another random thing to rage about.
