Another cool thing about Loops. They are working with the lead developer of DiVine to allow them to federate

Isn't made by the peeps that made PixelFed?

short form, ADHD training videos can go away all together

[–] zero_spelled_with_an_ecks@programming.dev 6 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

If you think ADHD is acquired by watching short videos then maybe go watch some long videos about it.

I do not think the medical diagnosis of ADHD is gonna come from short videos, probably should have said ADD not adhd

[–] dabaldeagul@feddit.nl 3 points 3 hours ago

ADD is no longer used, it is called ADHD inattentive type nowadays. I have it. And I didn't get it from short form videos.

Short form videos are terrible for concentration and focus, yes. But ADHD (both hyperactive and inattentive varieties) involves much more than just "haha look a butterfly," and reducing it to simply that is absurd.

Not fan of tbe format or addictive liabillity but prefer this if it has to exist

One thing I noticed about most of the Meta and Xitter clones is that they basically make a 1:1 replica of the popular platforms, including all of the annoying shit used to force you to stay engaged.

I used to use an app called "MyInsta" (before deleting my account altogether) which added a ton of QoL featured to Instagram reels, like the ability to STOP loops (looping is incredibly annoying to me, especially when creators explicitly make it difficult to spot where it begins and ends) and adds a timeline for scrubbing at the bottom so you don't have to watch the entire video again.

I checked it out out of curiosity but Loops has all the same annoying shit. On top of just vertical videos being objectively horrendous to begin with.

But I agree, better this than right-wing owned datahoarding apps like TikTok and Instagram.

The addictice liability is due to manipulation by Tech companies that use algorithms to maximise engagement - i.e. you like something, feed you more so you stay on the app.

That's not an issue with the format or the tech; it's a major issue with a lack of regulation of social media companies.

I'm giving it 2 months until everyone forgets about it.

I thought PixelFed was the Instagram alternative.

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

This is from the same developer. A focus is on short form video.

[–] hexagonwin@lemmy.today 30 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

i believe this is a tiktok / instagram reel alternative

[–] WolfmanEightySix@piefed.social 1 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I know. I use it. I just don’t understand why it’s being called an Instagram alternative when it’s not.

[–] nulluser@lemmy.world 11 points 13 hours ago

OP apparently wasn't paying attention to what they were typing when they originally posted. They have now corrected it.

[–] ZephyrXero@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

Because the average Instagram user has stopped using Instagram like Instagram, they just watch Reels now

[–] ZephyrXero@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

It is, this is from the same developer

[–] eneff@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Ok. Let me know when it's on F-Droid.

[–] joat_mon@lemmy.world 10 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

You can install it directly from their GitHub repo or through Obtanium.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

It is a tiktok altenative not instagram alternative

[–] beep@piefed.world 3 points 14 hours ago

Yeah, I fixed it.
