wefwef and Liftoff until Sync arrives.
I keep switching apps all the time. Right now, I'm trying out Wefwef vs Thunder. They are very similar and I really like both. However, I think I slightly prefer Thunder. It feels a little bit more fluent to me, as it is a native app and it comes with a few more options, like being able to put the thumbnail on the right. I really like that because now I can open pictures without opening the comments. It also does a few things a little bit more sensible in my opinion, esspecially the back button. For instance, in Thunder the back button does what I expect it to do. But in Wefwef It is a bit buggy as it often goes back on the background, without closing a full screen image first. The theming also feels a but more at home on Android, while still being very similar.
Both are great options though and both have it's pro's and cons. I'm also trying out Pulse for Squabbles (so not Lemmy), which is also very neat and very similar. Makes the experiences a bit more consistent.
I'm also waiting for both Sync and Boost. I'm really curious in how both of those Ferdiverse versions turn out.
Wefwef right now. I have been pretty pleased with it. Not sure who the the developer it but damn they’ve been rolling out updates daily. Sometimes multiple times a day. I don’t think the person is sleeping at this point.
It’s open source and there’s a ton of open PRs. Lots of people want Apollo back.
Jerboa
Same. I was using liftoff for a bit while they worked out the kinks during the 0.18 upgrade, but its been great, feels really intuitive to me.
Im coming from reddit via RiF, and I feel like Jerboa checks a lot of the same boxes for me.
Using wefwef.app (it’s a web app) and it’s great. Sometimes I need remind myself that I’m not using Apollo.
Not gonna lie, I don't know what kind of dark magic wefwef pulled through, but it is the first web app I actually find as performant a a native app. It may not be for me (not a big fan of iphone aesthetics), but it is wonderful.
Have to agree with this guy.
I recently swapped from IPhone to Android and thought I'd lost the slickness of Apollo forever.
Then Wefwef came along. It's nowhere near as smooth as the original Apollo app (at least via Android's Firefox browser), but it's got all the same vibes and makes me feel like I'm back in that same experience again.
Connect has been awesome for Android - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kuroneko.lemmy_connect
Me: "I wonder if this Connect could be better than what I'm using"
Also me: Already using Connect
Connect is easily the most feature-complete app I've found for Android at the moment, loving it here too
WefWef app on Android. It's been pretty great and seeing it get updates every day with new improvements is nice.
I switched back to Android right before Apollo came out so I never had experience with that. This is supposedly just like it with fewer features. Even so, I can see why people loved Apollo so much if it resembled WefWef even slightly.
I have a lot but I use none. I mainly use the web version, also on mobile.
Liftoff
Yeah so far I've been pretty happy with it. It's got a good UI
https://wefwef.app on iOS.
It's nearly EXACTLY like Apollo. Installed on my Home Screen and put where the Apollo icon was. (Apollo moved to a special folder to commemorate its memory.) You guys, I've got to be honest, I didn't think Lemmy was going to work out for me, but with wefwef, I don't feel like I'm missing a beat. Looking forward to Lemmy and the fediverse continuing to grow!
Wefwef. It's incredibly polished and fast, especially for a webapp. It runs circles around new reddit performance wise, even with the servers being a raspi trampled by a horde of reddit refugees
Jerboa has been wonderful lately.
It could use some UI/UX work though. For example, if I want to go to a comment I replied to from my profile, rif had a handy button to show my comment with context. On Jerboa I need to go to my comment with a couple unintuitive taps, then the context of that comment with another button that doesn't really feel like it's in the right place.
I'll give it time to develop though
wefwef.app
Memmy, Mlem, wefwef are all inspired by Apollo. All are good. Liftoff! is another one I am testing, not crazy about the design but it’s still decent.
I'm using Liftoff right now. It's got great features, and it's very stable.
I have Memmy, Liftoff, Mlem and wefwef. Like the interfaces of Mlem and wefwef the best so far. One app doesn’t have it all yet and if there’s a hang up with one I can try another!
I’m giving wefwef a go since there seems to be more notification options, messages and such available than that of memmy
Liftoff.
I think it's okay to keep discussing this because the app situation is very much in flux at the moment. I'm on Jerboa because it's the best native app I've found that plays nice with a folding phone and Samsung DeX. My requirements are simple, but they are niche. I'm keeping an eye on a few other apps though because while Jerboa is great as it is there are improvements to be found.
wefwef.app
Wefwef but I'll be using sync once it's available
Wefwef as it it similar to apollo
Connect for lemmy has a pretty nice clean look that can be customized to look a lot like RIF. Been enjoying it so far.
I've tried: Connect, Jerboa, Liftoff, Thunder, Summit, and Wefwef.
For now, I've settled on Liftoff, though I do keep Jerboa installed as well.
Edit: ah, you're on iOS. In which case, I got nuttin.
Here are the apps I've used for Lemmy on Android!
- Liftoff - my current app of choice. It's very fast, supports the gestures I need, and while it lacks a bit in appearance customization, it makes up for it in speed and features.
- Connect - I originally wrote it off due to the inability to disable swipe gestures, though I tried to switch back to it after that feature was added. It's now a very pleasant experience, with a lot of customization! The only downside is that it is still slower than Liftoff at the moment.
- Jerboa - decent, but buggy.
- Lemmotif - no features, no logins, no customization, no posting, no nothing; just pure, blazingly fast, Lemmy doomscrolling.
Liftoff. Simple yet elegant. I wish there was an app closer to baconreader. I used BR for 12 years, so I grew very accustomed to it.
Liftoff and Thunder are my two favorites until Boost for Lemmy comes out.
Jerboa for now just waiting for boost to release on lemmy and then i will move.
Liftoff is my favourite so far, but every time I use it I get the theme song from the old Australian kids show of the same name stuck in my head and it drives me insane.
I used Boost for a couple of years and will almost certainly be switching back to it as soon as it's available, it's set to download immediately from the play store when it releases.
I've tried mlem and memmy.
I like memmy better.
Jerboa for me, too. Mostly because it was the first thing that came up on the app store for me, and there isn't a Lemmy is Fun (...yet?). So I tried Jerboa and it's perfectly capable.
There isn't much choice - F-Droid only contains Jerboa (not counting abandoned and broken Lemmur).
I am using Liftoff right now. And it works for me
Jerboa. It's ok lol. Can't disable replies yet, though.
I mostly navigate it from my laptop, but in the cases where I use my phone, Jerboa is still my go-to
Buggy at times, but I like the UI. Definitely open to new apps though. Connect didn't feel like my type, but I might try out
Boost once it's done, since a friend of mine recommended it for Reddit.
Using browser for now. Waiting Sync for lemmy
Memmy, and occasionally WefWef if I need to check on any odd behavior in Memmy.
If both are acting odd I web version it to confirm, then file a report.
