Canada Housing

This is a community to discuss the housing crisis in Canada.

All so Canadians can find a decent home to live in.

Racism is still absolutely prohibited, but you are welcome to debate population growth, immigration rate, foreign home buyers, and the merits of single family homes or the green zone.

A merge of r/canadahousing and r/canadahousing2 for those coming from Reddit.

Bits of the sidebar and logo taken from those subs and will be going through a slight revision as things get settled.

Illegally.. . We know it can be done, but we also know the gov hates that and goes out of its way to stop it because it fucks existing housing prices.

Please oh please fuck existing housing prices....

Bull. shit. Maybe that shack cost $20K, but not the land and septic system. Septic system alone is $25K. A mini split AC would cool that shack for $800.

Yup. He says he has a "water storage membrane" not sure what that means but a problem with a lot of tiny homes is that a lot of the plumbing for toilets is basically a bucket. When you go #2 ... apparently the whole tiny home can smell it. Not sure what the water storage membrane is but if it doesn't proper septic system then this can be kinda painful for a lot of people.

I'm not sure what a "water storage membrane" - but based on the rv toilets and generator, I'm guessing it just has a blackwater tank.

Priced out a shipping container office once. 38k with AC

He built it on his parent's backyard so I assume he didn't have to deal with those costs.

Then it not the housing solution he pretends it is.

You can buy complete mini houses from home depot staring at $30K.

This was evidently prototyped in Minecraft. 3x3 wooden block house with ladder up to roof and some wooden fencing up there so you don't fall off.

Anything that starts life as a sea can is going to be hard to make into a house insulated well enough for Canada.

YouTubers started the shipping container fad, but it's the wrong material and a wood frame is better and cheaper.

I looked into it once. Its Kore complicated than that. Wood on metal sweats and wicks, so then you gel mold. So you need to spray foam it also, making sure wood doesn't touch the spray foam. And so on.

Pretty damn ugly IMO. And no AC. In today's climate, that's practically suicide.

“We started off with a concept and with a prototype on what affordable, luxury-looking modular houses could be and look like,” he explained.

For 20k I'm not too proud to buy my own AC unit.
