One comment there made a good point: A lot of ND people who go to another country often say how great it is to them, but the real effect is that when residents of that country see you miss a cue or act how they think is weird, they chalk it up to you being a foreigner, not ND. ND people who are actually from the country have it bad though.
neurodiverse
What is Neurodivergence?
It's ADHD, Autism, OCD, schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, bi-polar, aspd, etc etc etc etc
“neurologically atypical patterns of thought or behavior”
So, it’s very broad, if you feel like it describes you then it does as far as we're concerned
Rules
1.) ableist language=post or comment will probably get removed (enforced case by case, some comments will be removed and restored due to complex situations). repeated use of ableist language=banned from comm and possibly site depending on severity. properly tagged posts with CW can use them for the purposes of discussing them
2.) always assume good faith when dealing with a fellow nd comrade especially due to lack of social awareness being a common symptom of neurodivergence
2.5) right to disengage is rigidly enforced. violations will get you purged from the comm. see rule 3 for explanation on appeals
3.) no talking over nd comrades about things you haven't personally experienced as a neurotypical chapo, you will be purged. If you're ND it is absolutely fine to give your own perspective if it conflicts with another's, but do so with empathy and the intention to learn about each other, not prove who's experience is valid. Appeal process is like appealing in user union but you dm the nd comrade you talked over with your appeal (so make it a good one) and then dm the mods with screenshot proof that you resolved it. fake screenies will get you banned from the site, we will confirm with the comrade you dm'd.
3.5) everyone has their own lived experiences, and to invalidate them is to post cringe. comments will be removed on a case by case basis depending on determined level of awareness and faith
4.) Interest Policing will not be tolerated in any form. Support your comrades in their joy!
Further rules to be added/ rules to be changed based on community input
RULES NOTE: For this community more than most we understand that the clarity and understandability of these rules is very important for allowing folks to feel comfortable, to that end please don't be afraid to be outspoken about amendments and addendums to these rules, as well as any we may have missed
And it's a whole different dynamic when you're a visitor/tourist than when you're a migrant. I'm ND, living abroad. Daily life feels like double masking: once to hide my ND, second to perform local mores.
Add to that hiding my queerness, and you have a dysphoria sandwich

of course it was
Ya, what did it say?
Having autism in a scandinavian society is a genuine death sentence
I don’t think there is a more closed off and discriminatory society than the Scandinavian one. There are so many rules and expectations from a young age, that if you don’t follow them you are cast off in your formative years and you never get a chance to reintegrate into a social circle, since they are already decided in childhood and they don’t let anyone new in. So your life of solitude is already determined when you’re a fricking kid in kindergarten, assuming you go to a regular kindergarten and not one for kids with special needs And if you continue into further education, I’m currently in gymnasium for example, it’s even worse. The exclusion culture is so prominent, they don’t even attempt to want anything to do with you. It’s like they can tell you are abnormal at first glance, and now you have some contagious disease and communication with you is no longer possible. wtf!! I feel like in other countries societies there is at least that childhood circle that exists for someone with autism, but if you’re here in Scandinavia its the opposite cause nobody wants anything to do with you since the beginning. Any Scandinavian autists relate?
Norwegian autist here. This is 100% true.
It's the sameness culture and very protestant norms, the values and norms around these parts are structurally fascistic and eugenist. Bullying in schools is the norm even today. As an audhd from Finland I have definitely been in the sharp end of this dynamic all my life, so has all the people like myself that I know of.
But I suspect this still isn't unique to these countries, they are just especially weird about norms and fitting in.
The discussion cited here is pretty racist in parts and seems to have turned into a sort of competition on who is the most oppressed. Would fit in slop too.
Not convinced this is uniquely Scandinavian.
