I've yet to be convinced that there is a shoplifting crisis. and I'm yet to be convinced that there is an immigration crisis. i think we're being trained to be hateful and fearful

General community for news/discussion in the UK.
Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.
Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
No society will have a shoplifting cirsis if all people have good, shelter, healthcare, and education. Sure shoplifing will always be around but it its a crises then there is something wrong.
Some American stores just put glass between the customers and basic, inexpensive products with a buzzer to call an attendant.. Let me tell ya, that was a uh, choice...
Employees hate them because they didn't hire a dedicated unlocker because that'd cut into their record profits. Instead, they just rely on employees to stop what their doing and unlock the various locked up products around the store.
The average customer also hates this because we have to wait on somebody to unlock a low priced item as stupid as laundry detergent or eye drops... We are talking products less than $10 and various things locked up in different places in the store so depending on what you're wanting, you might be waiting a while. Average waist time during busy hours: 5-10 minutes per unlock.
The result of course is many customers including myself just stop buying the locked up products at the stores that do this.
Meanwhile, companies the implemented this stupid idea are "baffled" as to why the sales of these products have taken a significant hit...
Just do what the americans do. Make homelessness illegal, then you can arrest them and put them into the for-profit prisons to become slave labor.
