It's a good motivation to actually capture enemy soldiers surrendering instead of 'losing' them on their way to the back.

Is $300 a lot of money there for someone that they beat and force into the back of a van to go fight in war? Like does $300 make it worth it?

Nothing really makes it worth killing someone else. But it's forced upon them and it's their job, so getting a bonus is the least they can do.
